Economics Instructor

An Economics Instructor in the Department of Business & Information Systems will be assigned to teach a full range of lower-division economic courses to include, but may not be limited to: Principles of Macroeconomics (online and face-to-face), Principles of Microeconomics (online and face-to-face), and International Economics (online). The position also supports the Colleges’ extensive dual credit mission through mentoring and possible direct dual credit (high school) instruction.

This position begins the spring 2022 semester.

Timeline: For best consideration, applicants should submit materials by October 1, 2021

Location: Twin Falls campus and possible local high school dual credit locations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teach a minimum semester credit load (15-16 hours) of courses in accordance with the descriptions published in the CSI catalog.
  2. Devote a minimum of 37.5 hours per week to the institution, maintain appropriate office hours as determined by college policy, and bring to the attention of the immediate supervisor any conditions which might affect employment.
  3. Provide collegial support to extracurricular activities that occur in the Business & Information Systems.
  4. Assist the chairperson in the development of semester schedules, textbooks, and outcomes assessment processes.
  5. Participate in faculty development goals to improve professional effectiveness including instructional evaluation processes, the “Online Teacher” certification training, the “New Teacher” effective teaching workshop, and other professional development opportunities to include a three-year onboarding process.
  6. Provide current copies of course syllabi to the chairperson each semester.
  7. Meet all scheduled classes promptly with any deviation being filed promptly and accurately through the appropriate channels.
  8. Assume responsibility for giving exams and other measurements necessary to determine student level of performance and understanding.
  9. Monitor student placement in courses and student progress; maintain accurate records.
  10. Interact with and advise students.
  11. Promote and help with learning assistance services.
  12. Cooperate with other areas of the College to provide an effective educational program.
  13. Assist in the preparation of budget requests for each year. 
  14. Originate requests for travel in support of faculty development.
  15. Assume responsibility for all equipment assigned to the faculty member or to those under his or her supervision.
  16. Attend and participate in all departmental, division, and faculty meetings.
  17. Participate in all graduation exercises.
  18. Accept optional overload classes and summer teaching for an extra stipend, if desired.

 Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Economics or a closely related field. 
  • Experience in online education (development and pedagogy) is preferred. 
  • Teaching experience (curriculum development and pedagogy) is strongly preferred.
  • Applicants who claim equivalent qualifications shall provide conclusive evidence that they possess qualifications that are at least equivalent to those required by the minimum qualifications of the area for which they are applying. It is the responsibility of the applicant to supply all evidence and documentation for the claim of equivalency at the time of application.

  • Adapt to a variety of teaching situations including lectures, group activities, individual instruction, distance learning, online, and teaching with technology.
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written English in the classroom and with other professionals.
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, ethnic, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic, academic and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.
  • Develop and maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with members of the department, administration and staff.
  • Interact well with college students.
  • Have experience advising students.
  • Have experience integrating technology in instruction and implementing distance learning strategies.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: 

  • Use of computers in a multi-media classroom environment located throughout the campus. 
  • Comfortable in online educational environments
  • Possible dual credit requirements to include teaching one or more sections at local high schools in accordance with CSI Dual Credit policies.
