Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $54,000 - $63,000 at Assistant Professor level. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty, and training.

The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Department of Biology at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) invites candidates to apply for a tenure-track position with an emphasis in Microbiology. This position exists to serve as a full-time tenure-track member of the biology faculty teaching 12 credits per semester, building and developing their own research program, mentoring undergraduate research, and providing academic advising to students.

Duties/Responsibilities

Teach 12 credit hours per semester, including all required laboratories. The successful candidate will teach lower division courses that may include Introductory Biology, Introductory Microbiology for Nursing students, General Microbiology w/lab, as well as upper division microbiology courses that could include microbial physiology, pathogenic microbiology, microbial genetics, virology, immunology, microbial ecology, and mycology.

The candidate will be expected to establish a robust research agenda and programming that aims to build undergraduate research projects for our students. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide academic advising, engage in scholarly activities, and participate in service to the department, college, university, professional, and/or community.

Expectations for teaching, academic advising, scholarly activities, and service are clearly defined by university and departmental guidelines for retention, tenure, and promotion.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate in microbiology or closely related discipline by July 1, 2022.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to teach introductory-level biology courses and lower and upper division microbiology courses, such as general microbiology, microbial physiology, pathogenic microbiology, or similar courses as evidenced by teaching experience, research experience, graduate training, and/or professional expertise. Experience conducting research with undergraduate student involvement. Experience working with diverse populations as described below.

The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, nontraditional students, student veterans, and English-language learners.
