Assistant Professor of Music Education (General)
The University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Music Education (General) to begin 1 July 2022. The Department of Music Teaching and Learning offers general, instrumental, and vocal undergraduate majors in music education; Master of Music and Master of Arts degrees (which may be combined with initial certification coursework); a summers-only option for master’s degrees; and two doctoral degrees, DMA and PhD. The department values intellectual rigor and practical musicianship skills.
We seek a candidate who will actively pursue research and creative activities to achieve national and international prominence in music education, and who will add to the strengths of our current faculty. The department welcomes applications from a broad range of scholars who demonstrate a forward-thinking approach to research and practice. Areas of interest/experience may include urban education; equity, access, and inclusion; technology and music production; and community engagement, with research experience/expertise in qualitative or mixed methods.
Responsibilities: Teach general music methods (including secondary general), supervise student teachers, advise undergraduate and graduate students in music education, teach graduate courses, advise graduate research.
Requirements: Completed doctorate preferred (ABD considered); record of pre-collegiate and collegiate teaching, record of scholarship and creative work relative to career stage, and commitment to excellence in teaching.
