Who we are:

Columbia Gorge Community College (CGCC) is a rural community college, sized perfectly to be dynamic, nimble and innovative. We serve a full-time equivalency (FTE) of approximately 850 students, with a total headcount of approximately 4,000 students. 

CGCC serves a diverse region in north-central Oregon and south-central Washington. Our main campus is within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area in The Dalles, Oregon, with a satellite center in Hood River, Oregon. Currently, the college offers a full range of learning opportunities, including collegiate transfer, career and technical education, GED/Pre-college, high school college credit, community education, and customized training. The college has made great strides in providing innovative and exemplary career and technical programs of critical importance to the communities and region it serves.

Who we seek:

An Instructional Dean who brings innovation, vision, and data-informed, student-centered leadership to Career and Technical Education (CTE)GED/Pre-CollegeEnglish for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). This includes high school college credit courses lead to transfer or CTE certificates and degrees such as Advanced Manufacturing & Fabrication, Aviation Maintenance Technician, Construction Technology, Business & Entrepreneurship, and Electro-Mechanical Technology, and Early Childhood Education.

What you will do:

  • Manage and develop budget for assigned programs, making informed decisions to ensure sustainability of programs, and providing guidance on the prioritization of equipment needs and purchases;
  • Participate in resource development, including grant writing and management;
  • Provide department leadership that promotes program growth by implementing effective and best-practice strategies to increase enrollment and maximize student learning, retention, and completion, such as those pertaining to delivery modalities, instructional practice, assessment, and equity and belonging;
  • Collaborate with department chairs, faculty, and Student Services to develop annual and quarterly schedules of classes that are equitable and responsive to demonstrated student need and enrollment trends;
  • Coordinate with the Office of Curriculum and Academic Assessment to ensure that curricula are effective, contemporary, professional, and responsive to changing regional, state and local workforce needs. Success here includes timely and consistent annual planning, budgeting and assessment, thorough program reviews, and the recruitment, development, and convening of diverse program advisory committees;
  • Cultivate strong relationships with business and industry partners, school districts, community organizations, and workforce development agencies, to develop new programs and align learning outcomes with workforce needs and students’ end goals;
  • Recruit, evaluate, develop and support department faculty and staff, and maintain an appropriate roster of qualified adjunct instructors;
  • Ensure curricular compliance with institutional, state, accreditation, and federal guidelines;
  • Develop and oversee relevant coursework in high school college credit programs: College Now (i.e., dual credit), Early College, Expanded Options (OR), and Running Start (WA);
  • Support and encourage the collection and analysis of data to inform decision-making, including course, program and institutional learning outcomes data, student success, retention, and completion data, regional economic development data, student survey data of courses and faculty, and state and national comparator data;
  • Contribute to and lead the development and implementation of institutional initiatives that aim to improve student success and advance the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the college, such as Guided Pathways;
  • Implement assigned projects and activities, and perform other duties as assigned or delegated by the Chief Academic Officer.

What you bring….

  • Minimum Professional Qualifications: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or CTE specialty area, and at least three years’ experience working in higher education and/or a CTE field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will receive consideration.
  • Preferred Professional Qualifications: Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution. Five years’ experience working in higher education in CTE. Demonstrated experience of developing and sustaining new CTE certificate and degree programs. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Required Personal Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize, listen effectively, communicate clearly, tactfully, and in a timely fashion, both cooperate and work independently, learn and apply college policies and procedures, and maintain effective working relationships. Demonstrated creativity and resourcefulness, data-mindedness, accuracy and detail-orientation, problem-solving. Demonstrated knowledge of instructional areas and issues, modern office practices, procedures, and software and technology, regional accreditation standards.

Columbia Gorge Community College is located in an area of exceptional scenic beauty, recreational opportunity, and climatic diversity. The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area offers spectacular waterfalls and scenic vistas, while the majestic Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood volcanoes dominate the skyline to the north and south. 

Manufacturing, technology, and IT companies are expanding rapidly in the area, which is home to companies such as Insitu/Boeing, Tofurky, Cardinal Glass, Sagetech Avionics, HoodTech, and Google. Much of the area is connected to agricultural pursuits, with large acreages of wheat fields, cherry, pear, and apple orchards, and dozens of vineyards. Outdoor recreation is one of the primary lifestyle benefits of the area, and it attracts a busy tourist industry. Portland is only an hour away, with its various urban attractions and access to international travel.
