Cornell University, a nationally ranked Ivy League institution, is looking for a Director, Alumni Engagement Initiatives and College and Unit Partnerships, to join the Alumni Affairs and Development team in the appealing city of Ithaca, NY. This is a newly created role, dedicated to the priorities of the Cornell Alumni Engagement Strategic Plan. The right candidate will build and pioneer programming in the areas of alumni engagement, alumni career support and college and unit partnerships.

The Director serves as a primary liaison between university alumni affairs and Cornell College and Unit (C&U) staff members and will strengthen existing C&U partnerships. The Director convenes engagement leaders across campus in monthly meetings of the Engagement Leaders Collaborative. The Director is responsible for identifying college and unit engagement programs that have the potential to serve the broad base of Cornell alumni. The Director will also expand and promote a robust Alumni Career Support Program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management and support of the Engagement Leaders Collaborative (ELC), serve as a primary liaison between university alumni affairs and Cornell college and unit staff members. The Director convenes engagement leaders across campus in monthly meetings of the ELC.
  • Lead College and Unit partnerships and programming integration for key Alumni Affairs events including Trustee Council Annual Meeting (TCAM), Cornell Alumni Leadership Conference (CALC), and other events.
  • Lead the strategy, implementation, oversight, and refinement of the Alumni Affairs and Development Administrator/ Faculty Speaker Program in collaboration with Colleges and Units.
  • Further build out, lead, promote, provide strategic direction and implement a robust Alumni Career Support program.
  • Partner with senior administration, college and unit leaders, university alumni engagement and development program areas, and other university partners with a shared goal to strengthen and grow overall alumni engagement and alumni giving participation.
  • Identify college and unit engagement programs that have the potential to serve the broad base of Cornell alumni.
  • Work collaboratively to develop relationships with university AAD colleagues, specifically Digital, Brand and Communications, and Annual Giving Marketing and Participation, Regional Programs, International Alumni Programs, Class, Student and Young Alumni Programs, Diversity Alumni Programs, and other areas.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with alumni leaders, high-level volunteers, university donors, donor prospects and key stakeholders.
  • Be a leader on the Engagement Initiatives, Volunteer Programs and College and Unit Partnerships team, responsible for managing, mentoring and leading 2+ team members.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with 5-7 years of experience, working in a large, complex, team-based environment that involves working with a mixture of internal and external constituents on a regular basis, or the equivalent.
  • Experience in or relevant experience in designing and implementing alumni engagement and career support programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement long-term plans and annual goals and objectives.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to effectively lead, support, build and maintain relationship with internal partners.
  • Understanding of fundraising, specifically identification, cultivation, and stewardship.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in collaboration with internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to function effectively in a large, de-centralized university environment and build solid relationships with several departments throughout the university.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to effectively deliver a group presentation.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, able to work with and around extremely sensitive and confidential information.
  • Must be able to exercise judgment and discretion and make decisions that may impact the organization and its constituents.
  • Experience with managing team members and strong supervisory skills.
  • Must be able to work with desktop applications, databases, networked informational systems and the internet.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior work in higher education administration and/or alumni affairs and development.
  • Prior work in alumni engagement and career services.
