Job Description

The Virginia Tech College of Liberal Arts and Sciences seeks three communications coordinators to provide communications support to the college, especially its 11 departments, three schools, and many centers and programs. These positions offer flexible schedules between 28 and 40 hours per week and the possibility of remote work options.

Reporting to the director of marketing and communications, the communications coordinators will be key members of the college's marketing and communications team. They will plan, execute, and evaluate a range of communications initiatives, projects, and platforms that strategically align with the broader advancement (development, alumni relations, communications) and recruitment goals of the college and university.

Work responsibilities may include writing and producing enewsletters, email communications, and stories that highlight department, school, center, and program activities; managing department social media accounts, websites, and other digital and print forms of communication; researching and writing features and profiles for online and print publication; producing photographic and videographic assets; promoting featured events; and providing key support for both undergraduate and graduate student recruitment efforts.

The communications coordinators must have a strong background in writing and a keen attention to audience as well as demonstrated experience in several communications skillsets. These skillsets may include feature writing, social media management, enrollment marketing, website development and maintenance, videography and photography, and media relations. The communications coordinators must be team players and follow established brand guidelines, university policies and procedures, and accessibility standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, or a relatedfield.
  • Strong written communication skills, including editing and copywriting.
  • Experience working with communication platforms in a professional setting.
  • Experience meeting deadlines and navigating multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with digital content strategy and management, including content managementsystems and other web platforms.
  • Experience with organizational social media management and best practices.
  • Experience with visual communication mediums, such as photography, videography, andgraphic design.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite applications, including Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Experience in higher education or a nonprofit environment.
