Physical Therapy Services


Physical Therapy services at the CSU Health Network provide comprehensive breath of services including Physical Therapy, Massage therapy and Sport medicine/Orthopedic clinics. Physical Therapy evaluates and treats patients using therapeutic modalities, manual therapy techniques and exercise. The goal of treatment is to improve the functional and physical capabilities of the patient. The Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Clinic is staffed by consulting physicians from the community. Consultations are available for management of orthopedic and sport's related injuries and evaluation and treatment of hand/wrist pain, injuries, and surgical consults. Massage Therapy is offered by licensed massage therapists. Massage therapy can be beneficial to enhance function and promote relaxation for muscle tension and overuse injuries. The Physical Therapy department provides services between the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday-Friday, providing attractive work schedules for staff.

Position Summary

The Physical Therapist (PT) is a movement expert who optimizes quality of life through prescribed exercise, hands-on care, and patient education. The PT teaches patients how to prevent or manage their condition so that they will achieve long-term health benefits. The PT examines each patient and develops a plan, using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. In addition, the PT works with patients to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles. State licensure is required in Colorado for all physical therapists to practice.

The Physical Therapist - PRN is a part-time hourly position, working a varying schedule of 0-19 hours per week with no guaranteed hours, and is non-benefits eligible.This position reports directly to the Physical Therapy Manager.


Required Job Qualifications

Education
  • Masters of Physical Therapy (MPT) or Masters of Science in Physical Therapy (MSPT)
Licensure
  • Possession of current, valid physical therapist license from the State of Colorado, or the ability to obtain prior to start
Experience
  • One year of practice as a licensed physical therapist
Preferred Job Qualifications

Education/Certification
  • Evidence of Physical Therapy degree from an accredited program, Doctor of Physical Therapy degree preferred
  • Board certification in PT specialty: Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, Women's Health, Neuro Rehab
Experience
  • Three or more years of experience in outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine setting
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated experience with manual therapy (continuing education, certifications)
  • Experience with electronic medical records
  • Prior experience in a university setting
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
  • Specialty training in the following areas: sports medicine, athletic training, women's health, vestibular disorders/concussion management, TMD, Kinesiotaping, Trigger Point Dry Needling, UE/LE Bracing/Splinting, and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
  • Ability to carry an independent caseload of patients from initial encounter to discharge
  • Ability to work as a team and reach out to colleagues for specialist care when needed

Job Duty Category: Patient Evaluation and Clinical Duties

Duty/Responsibility
  • Adherence to professional, ethical, and legal standards of practice

  • Ability to perform treatments to maintain, improve or restore function, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients

  • Performs all documentation in a timely manner at day of service
  • Keeps current records of ongoing evaluation and treatment by dictation and writing progress notes in the patient's medical chart
  • Provides updates/progress notes to referring providers as needed for on-going status changes on patients referred
  • Upkeeps status of medical records including electronic documentation, billing and coding, and tasks/secure messaging with timely correspondence
  • Demonstrates completeness of patient charts and medical records

  • Communicates with other care providers verbally and in writing to discuss patient plan of care , patient goals and progress, and /or changes needed in plan of care
  • Continues to make referrals when situations are warranted to specialty providers and/or referral back to primary care provider as needed
  • Requests specialty testing and/or radiology procedures through primary care providers for assisting in diagnosis and management of patient condition
  • Provide clear communication to supportive staff members involved with patient care about plan of care, patient goals, patient progress
  • Is actively engaged in community and Health Network by contributing to community and/or clinical education with PT educational presentations through brochures, interviews, power-point presentations and etc

  • Provide direct supervision of physical therapy aides, and PT students as required
  • As a PT Clinical instructor (CI), supervises, educates and trains Physical Therapy students in order for them to successfully pass their clinical rotation
  • Educates patients, their significant others, staff and faculty in injury prevention including individualized home programs and presenting educational seminars as indicated
  • Seeks regular opportunities for professional growth and clinical growth through in-house training, continuing education, conferences or professional associations

Job Duty Category: Department Administration

Duty/Responsibility
  • Assist supportive staff in administrative duties when needed including scheduling, authorizations, verifying benefits, patient follow-up, discharge summaries and other administrative duties needed by the department
  • Participate in DME distribution, walk-in patients and inventory control process's
  • Participate in budget planning and policy development
  • Assists in performing weekly and monthly checklists
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the quality of PT processes and programs
  • Participates in peer review activities as assigned by manager
  • Assists manager in setting clinical goals
