The Department of Resident Life serves a highly diverse population of approximately 12,500 undergraduate students living in traditional residence halls, apartments, and suites including some public/private partnership apartment communities. About 46% of all resident students are enrolled in twelve living-learning programs covering a wide array of academic areas. Resident Life employs a diverse workforce of 88 full-time and graduate staff members and about 600 undergraduate student staff members. General Description of Duties
The Manager for Rights and Responsibilities assumes responsibility for the management of the Office of Rights and Responsibilities, and ensures the efficiency and integrity of the adjudicative process in response to major conduct violations by resident students. The Manager serves as a member of a team of residence life professionals who work collaboratively to manage student behavior, educate students on their roles as responsible and ethical citizens, and determine accountability for those who fail to meet the expectations of a residential community of approximately 12,500. The Manager ensures due process in the handling of conduct cases and maintenance of the security and integrity of student behavioral records. The Manager is responsible for the supervision of the Rights and Responsibilities Office Staff, the effectiveness and efficiency of a residence life judicial process as an adjunct to the University Discipline process, and the maintenance of an effective, collaborative working relationship with Resident Life Community Staff and the University Office of Student Conduct. The Manager reports to the Assistant Director of Resident Life for Student Conduct.
Minimum qualifications: A master’s degree is required in Student Affairs, Student Personnel or a related field. A minimum of four years full-time experience that includes residence life or conduct functions is required. Direct experience in student conduct and behavior management is required. Necessary skills include capacities in analytical and critical thinking, strong verbal and written communication skills, and effective customer service.
Preferred qualifications: Previous managerial experience for conduct processes and experience with sexual misconduct/Title IX processes are strongly preferred.
Normal office environment – Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negotiable amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Ability to travel around campus for meetings and to attend to duties. Some evening and weekend work required.
The starting salary for this position is in the low $70,000s. Benefits include tuition remission, retirement programs, health insurance, and annual and sick leave.
