Job Description

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin invites applications for a tenure-track, open rank (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) faculty member to serve as Clinical Coordinator in the Department of Counseling in the College of Education. The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination of practicum and internship experiences in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling master's programs and for the daily operations of the UTPB Counseling Training Clinic. Faculty rank will be based on prior experiences, faculty credentials, and (if applicable) faculty ranks held in prior academic appointments.

Potential teaching assignments will include coursework in basic and advanced counseling skills, group counseling, practicum and/or internship, and other graduate-level courses. Faculty in the UTPB College of Education have advising responsibilities and are required to engage in scholarly research and service to the program, department, college, and university, to the profession, and to the community.

Additional responsibilities include developing grant proposals and directing funded projects; developing university/school/community partnerships; and providing service to the community, school districts, agencies, and professional organizations. Faculty credentials must meet university requirements for classification as UTPB graduate faculty. Teaching assignments include but are not limited to online courses.


Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver's license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record.

Required Qualifications

1. Doctoral degree in counselor education and supervision from a CACREP accredited university; ABDs will be considered if completing their dissertation within 6 months of appointment;

2. Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Professional Counselor and/or certification as a Professional School Counselor with three years of counseling experience in U.S. public schools;

3. Potential for/demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship;

4. Direct experience and/or commitment to teaching and working with students from diverse populations, including underserved populations and first generation students, in consonance with the university's mission as a Hispanic serving institution (HSI);

5. Expertise with distance education delivery and Learning Management Systems and the ability to teach in online and in blended learning environments;

6. Willingness to conduct and publish high-quality research and engage in grant writing;

7. Willingness to be a team player focused on supporting new initiatives and partnerships in the College of Education;

8. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills with an appropriate understanding of the needs of the audience and appropriate professionalism;

9. Interest in the professional and personal growth of students;

10. The ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications

1, Specialization in Clinical Mental Health or School Counseling;

2. College-level teaching experience;

3. Experience supervising master's level counseling students;

4. Potential for/demonstrated record of obtaining external funding, commensurate with rank;

5. Ability to teach via traditional and alternative delivery methods;

6. Demonstrated experience in innovation within the field of counseling, including the use of evidence-based practices and innovative technology; and

7. Desire to contribute to a high-performing faculty and staff.
