Position Summary

Responsible for carrying out all senior level functions related to billing, collections and credentialing.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assists with the development and implementation of strategies and procedures that will reduce denials, maximize reimbursements and promote faster payment.
  • Reviews accounts receivable for discrepancies.
  • Develops work schedules with the supervisor for aggressive account follow-up and resolution.
  • Performs extensive follow-up to investigate and resolve payment denial trends.
  • Utilizes the practice management system to sort, filter, summarize and identify various account receivable trends to solicit payments from insurance companies and patients.
  • Reviews various reports and makes recommendations to resolve outstanding patient responsibility.
  • Monitors payment patterns and alerts manager to deviations.
  • Assists patients in appealing denied claims. Prepares letters of appeal to insurance carriers for claims that were not paid or paid at the incorrect rate. Answers inquiries from patients and insurance companies regarding unpaid physician charges.
  • When necessary resolves charge review, registration and claim edits within the practice management billing system to ensure successful claim submission.
  • Assists in training current and new employees on the use of systems and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains up-to-date policies and procedures and knowledge related to managed care and third party payors.
  • Attends workshops and seminars to keeps abreast of billing policies and procedures.
  • Generates reports for analysis.
  • Reviews and submits refund and write-off requests. Approves and performs write-offs as requested and as necessary.
  • Under direction, distributes work assignments to staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • High School Diploma
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • CPC preferred.
  • Approximately 3-5 years of medical billing, specifically accounts receivable experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of third party reimbursement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Prior experience working with an eMR system.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and database applications.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain focus despite frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to treat confidential information with utmost discretion.
  • Ability to exercise standards of professionalism, including appearance, presentation and demeanor.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative manner with all departmental faculty and staff, as well as other institutional representatives.

Ability to sit for long periods of time, working on a computer in an office setting with typical office lighting and temperature variations.
