The School of Engineering at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks an Assistant Professor of Geology (Tenure-Track, 9-month position) to begin in Fall 2022. Duties include teaching of undergraduate courses, conducting research, and providing professional service. A reduced load (12 SCH per academic year for the first two years) is provided to allow for other duties, such as publishing research, and serving on departmental, University , and professional committees. We desire candidates with a background in petroleum or sustainable energy.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate in Geology or closely related field (e.g. Earth Science) with significant background in one or more of the following areas: soft rock geology, structural geology, organic geochemistry, or geophysics. In addition, the successful candidate must have a strong commitment to general science education supporting TAMIU' s core curriculum.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong research skills, have a strong record of or potential for sustained publication in peer-reviewed journals (commensurate with experience), have the potential for or prior experience with seeking and/or securing external grant funding, can work with diverse student population, and foremost can teach in areas that complement or strengthen our undergraduate programs.

Geology is housed within the School of Engineering. Access to Linux clusters and PC nodes dedicated for computational-based research is available. Rock preparation and core preparation labs exist to facilitate rock and sediment processing. The EOR core flooding lab supports the measurement of rock properties (e.g. permeability, porosity). A non-contact strain measuring system is available to characterize fractures and geomechanical properties. TAMIU also has a SEM that supports material characterization. Start-up money is available to support the acquisition of specialized equipment.
