Tenure Track Assistant Professor, Communication Arts
The Department of Theatre and Communication Arts invites applications for an assistant professor on the tenure track in Communication Arts, beginning August 2022. Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD in Communication or a related field at the time of appointment, though advanced ABD candidates may be considered. Excellence in teaching and mentoring of students are the highest priorities of the College.
The study of Communication at The College of Idaho is a rapidly growing component of our innovative PEAK curriculum. As an offering under the humanities umbrella, we hold that communication is an artful, constitutive force in building our social world. As such, we seek to explicate communication using a critical/cultural lens, working to emphasize the vital connections between power, civic discourse, community, and culture; to encourage our students to work ethically toward a more socially just world.
The Department of Theatre and Communication Arts is seeking a communication generalist, with preference given to candidates interested in working with a competitive Speech and Debate team. Primary responsibilities include teaching courses about foundational Communication concepts, potentially contributing to our First Year Seminar, as well as courses in the successful candidate's area of expertise. The standard annual teaching load is 21 credits (3:1:3). The department would welcome an enthusiastic, creative Teacher-Scholar with experience or interest in critical/cultural communication as it relates to their specific areas of interest. The successful candidate will demonstrate a broad knowledge in relation to communication, as well as the ability to research and convey knowledge about their specializations without losing sight of the big picture. As a small, growing department—we seek candidates interested in actively working to design curriculum, engage in formative assessment processes, as well as facilitate student access to high impact practices (like Speech and Debate or formal and informal performances). Applications should include a cover letter, CV, statement of teaching philosophy that clearly articulates a commitment to liberal arts education and demonstrated commitment to representation, inclusion, and equity, evidence of teaching effectiveness, statement of research interests, and 3 letters of recommendation. At least one letter must address teaching.
