MSW Faculty Positions
Erikson Institute, one of the nation’s leading independent graduate schools in child development, provides a unique context for a developmentally informed Master of Social Work (MSW) program. The MSW program has two open positions available for full-time faculty, open track (Tenure or Clinical) and open rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor).
The MSW Program
Founded in 1966 with a strong commitment to social justice, Erikson Institute seeks to improve the lives of young children, youth, and families through graduate and continuing education in child development, social work, and early childhood education, as well as through community programs and policy research. The Institute is well positioned within the heart of Chicago, which continues to be a global city with remarkable cultural, ethnic and linguistic diversity.
The social work curriculum is grounded in a developmental perspective, emphasizing core knowledge in the ecologies of development, social justice, and cultural diversity. Teaching is a critical component for delivering this knowledge and is highly regarded amongst the students and faculty. Furthermore, the MSW program is one of the few social work programs which dedicates time weekly to 2.5-hour field seminars. These seminars emphasize self-knowledge, critical thinking, and reflective practice to engage in effective relationships with children, families, communities, and systems. Erikson Institute is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) as well as the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).
Both positions are full-time, 10-month appointments starting August 2022. Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, as well as asynchronous and synchronous online courses. All tenured faculty are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, a research and publication agenda, and other professional activities designed to enrich student learning and service to the community and profession. Participation in curriculum development, student advisement, and service to the MSW program and Institute is required.

Minimum Education- A doctorate in social work or a related field is required as well as a master's degree in Social Work (MSW or equivalent) from a CSWE-accredited institution with at least two years practice experience post-MSW (5 or more years of practice experience preferred). At least one year of teaching experience is also preferred.
Preferred Qualifications- Ideal candidates will teach and engage in scholarship from an anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective and possess a holistic view of social work practice (micro- macro level). The ideal candidate for the first position will have expertise in infant and early childhood mental health (emphasis on 0-5 years) and the ideal candidate for the second position will have expertise in an area of clinical practice related to children, adolescents, families, and/or communities. Our program has a developmental, reflective, and relationship-based approach at the cornerstone of its curriculum, and we are looking for candidates that will support and expand this perspective. They will demonstrate strong teaching skills through positive course evaluations. Ideal candidates for tenure-track or tenured positions will have a proven track record of obtaining research funding and be productive in disseminating scholarly work through publications and presentations. Experience with online teaching and project-based learning is also preferred.
