Job Description

School of social work is seeking part-time faculty to be a course build and instructional lead for SWK 715- Administration in Human Services (3 credits). Course description: Organizational and administrative theories and principles are applied to a range of human services. Administrative issues related to effective delivery of services include job design, resource procurement and allocation, strategic planning, and quality management.
PREREQ: SWK 601 or advanced standing status.

Course Overview:
This course will familiarize students with the three primary supervisory tasks: administration, education and support. Students will also learn the difference between supervision and leadership; they will assess their own leadership styles in a variety of ways and learn several leadership techniques. Students will also become familiar with various administrative roles such as program assessment, team building, human resource management, board relationships, working with the media, budgeting and ethical practice.

Position begins in November 1, 2021. The course launch to students is August 2022.

Learning Outcomes:

In SWK 715, students at the completion of the course will be able to:
  1. Identify their own leadership/management style and how that has an impact on or is perceived by others. (AIP CSWE competencies 1 and 2)
  2. Incorporate various leadership techniques into their social work practice in an ethical, strengths-based and culturally competent manner. (AIP CSWE competencies 1 and 2)
  3. Identify changes in their organization and whether those are technical versus adaptive, the types of change condition for each and the stages of change. They will develop strategies to manage organizational change effectively. (AIP CSWE competencies 5 and 9)
  4. Demonstrate setting and communicating clear performance expectations and standards of practice. Demonstrate the ability to give effective feedback and create an environment of mutual accountability within their organization. (AIP CSWE competencies 1, 2 and 9)
  5. Demonstrate an ability to evaluate an entire program, including budget, using the Getting to Outcomes model of program evaluation and recommend program or policy changes as necessary. This evaluation will include research-informed best practice. (AIP CSWE competencies 4, 5 and 9)
  6. Identify considerations when dealing with special topics such as media relations, working with a board of directors and human resource issues. (AIP CSWE competencies 1, 2, 5 and 9)
SWK 715 is an advanced macro practice course.

Qualifications

Qualification is an MSW with previous graduate-level social work practice teaching experience preferred. Candidate must have 2 years post-masters experience.

Responsibilities

As an instructional lead, it is expected that you will create the content and assignments for your course over a time of approximately 10 months prior to the launch of the course. In building your course, you will determine timing and method of assignments and quizzes/tests. You will work with 2U Content Specialists to enhance your material with available video and interactive techniques. After each offering of the course, you will work with the 2U team to make minor refreshments to the asynchronous material, as necessary. You will teach and grade at least one live, synchronous section (14 weeks) per class offering. For the specific term, synchronous sections will run based on regular semester session.

As part of your appointment, you will coordinate the other section lead(s) work plan and grading expectations. This will include:
  • Suggest follow-up on asynchronous content, timely topical information, assignments, case, and problem discussions
  • Create grading rubrics/guidelines for section lead(s) to administer
In your role as a section lead, you will:
  • Meet all designated class periods.
  • Conduct discussions for each week's live session.
  • Grade any assignments and exams in a timely manner based on instructions/rubrics provided.
  • Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
