Medical Records Specialist

Coastal Carolina University is accepting applications for the following position: Medical Records Specialist (Administrative Specialist II) for Student Health Services.

Duties will include, but are not limited to: greet all students and visitors to the Student Health Center; assist students/parents or general public in completing student health service forms; maintain protected health information; scan all necessary health information documents; schedule student appointments and verify eligibility prior to appointment; receive payment for services rendered if applicable; sort and distribute incoming and outgoing mail; and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and two (2) years of related experience are required. Equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered. Medical Office/Clerical Assistant certificate preferred. College credit and/or two years equivalent work experience are preferred. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, basic knowledge of medical terminology, medical records maintenance experience, excellent typing and computer skills and experience in a health services environment are preferred.

Administrative Specialist II (AA50/001777), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Band: 03. Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university. Some evening and weekend hours required.


Required Qualifications

High School diploma required. Two (2) years of related experience required. Equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Medical Office/Clerical Assistant certificate preferred. Prefer some college credit and/or two years equivalent work experience. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills necessary. Basic knowledge of medical terminology and medical records maintenance. Excellent typing and computer skills necessary. Experience in health services environment preferred.

Ability to think analytically, prioritize work under pressure and respond appropriately in emergencies. Very strong organization and project skills, accuracy and attention to detail, and basic clerical skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independent and as part of a team. Strong time management skills and ability to work energetically and effectively in a fast paced environment. Must be knowledgeable of importance of providing caring customer service and ability to maintain strict confidentiality, professionalism and integrity.
