Description of Work Unit

The College of Business at Colorado State University is an AACSB-accredited business school that enrolls more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students in on-campus and online programs annually. The Institute for Entrepreneurship in the College of Business at Colorado State University develops and coordinates an array of co-curricular programming that enriches existing strengths in research and teaching across multiple disciplines to provide students with the knowledge, practical skills, and applied learning experiences to succeed as entrepreneurs. The Institute has built a venture development platform based on the "Zero Barriers" approach to entrepreneurship, ensuring that our program is provided for as close to free as possible for all students, staff, faculty, and community members. The Institute for Entrepreneurship is a hub for entrepreneurship across campus, offering co-curricular experiences and training to the entrepreneurial community at Colorado State University that fosters venture creation and entrepreneurial mindset development. Through this strong cross-campus collaborative initiative, an entrepreneurial environment is fostered in every college across campus.

In addition, to serving campus, the entrepreneurship institute serves as a portal for engaging the broader entrepreneurial community to develop and deliver programs. An Institute for Entrepreneurship board, managing a large network of mentors, and maintaining partnerships with other entrepreneurial centers across the state fall under the purview of the Institute.

Position Summary

The College of Business seeks applications from individuals who have obtained a bachelor's or master's degree from Colorado State University within the past 24 months in Design, Business Administration, Engineering, Entrepreneurship Minor, or Technical Communications and are interested in the Business Residency Program. Applications will be accepted from students who provide proof of graduation on or after May 2020.

The overall goal of the Business Residents program is to produce certified graduates who are highly competitive in the job market while benefiting the College of Business by playing a critical role in implementing its business strategy. The Business Resident provides professional level duties in support of the operations of the College of Business. This Administrative Professional special appointment position reports to an assistant director level position. Business Residents are appointed for a one-year appointment term and may be renewed for a period not to exceed three years.

Business Residents serve in a professional capacity to support key constituents such as the Dean, Associate Deans, Department Heads, departmental/area personnel representatives, and students in the College of Business. This position possesses wide-ranging professional knowledge of business, marketing, event management, design, engineering, or communications. The Business Resident must demonstrate the ability to work collegially and in cooperation with the departments and units across the College and the campus community. Required Job Qualifications
  • Applicants must have obtained a bachelor's or master's degree, from the College of Business at Colorado State University, within the past 24 months, in business or closely related field 
  • Experience with customer discovery, design thinking, and the entrepreneurial mindset 
  • Willingness and ability to work weekends and evening hours when needed 
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced team environment 
  • Enthusiasm for working with CSU students and faculty, and understanding of CSU systems. 
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% of time, including potential overnight stays in Delta County, Pueblo, and the San Luis Valley . 
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Degree from an accredited university in business, design, entrepreneurship, or engineering preferred 
  • Understanding of the CSU environment 
  • Knowledge of how to support early-stage startups 
  • Experience building and growing communities 
  • Experience managing student programs 
  • Familiarity with Fort Collins ecosystem and I4E partnerships

  • Supporting Assistant Director in finding, communicating, and managing judges, guest speakers, and mentors for curricular and co-curricular entrepreneurship at Colorado State University

Duty/Responsibility
  • With support from the Assistant Director, promote all Institute for Entrepreneurship programs, events, and news efforts, including coordination of marketing schedules, event calendar, social media, in-person/direct marketing, and ensuring CSU marketing compliance standards.
  • Support student recruitment across campus to increase engagement with curricular and co-curricular entrepreneurship programming. This includes: hosting office hours for perspective student entrepreneurs, managing the student ambassador program, and speaking in classes.
  • Supporting Assistant Director in finding, communicating, and managing judges, guest speakers, and mentors for curricular and co-curricular entrepreneurship at Colorado State University

Job Duty Category: Program & Event Coordination- External Community

Duty/Responsibility
  • This position will act as a key resource for the promotion of community events and coordinates efforts to promote external events and programming associated with I4E, especially in Delta County, Pueblo, and the San Luis Valley
  • This position will plan, coordinate, organize, promote and facilitate events, workshops, seminars, conferences, and other outreach events that fall under the I4E purview with respect to the Economic Development Authority grant supporting Delta, Pueblo, and the San Luis Valley. To further support the event coordination activity, the position will:
o Maintain communication with speakers and participants associated with I4E events.

o Work closely with the stakeholders associated with the event to coordinate and monitor event timelines.

o Prepare a variety of publications, materials, digital assets, and programs for events.

o Reviews and analyzes evaluations.
  • Work with other CSU entities or external partners in planning events

Job Duty Category: Mentor Coordination

Duty/Responsibility
  • Work with Community Impact Manager to recruit and onboard new mentors to support I4E programming especially in Delta County, Pueblo, and the San Luis Valley
  • Manage mentor stipend payments, communications, and database to ensure high-quality mentor experience
  • Work with local communities in Delta County, Pueblo, and the San Luis Valley to understand mentor needs and make connections from I4E pool of mentors
