Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following position: Assistant Fire Marshal (Fire Safety Officer III) in the Department of Public Safety.
Duties include, but are not limited to: inspect and test fire protection/and or fire detection systems; inspect buildings to locate hazardous conditions and fire code violations; conduct inspections and acceptance testing of newly installed fire protection; conduct fire code compliance follow-ups to ensure that corrective actions have been taken in cases where violations were found; write detailed reports of fire inspections performed, fire code violations observed, and corrective recommendations offered; attend training classes in order to maintain current knowledge of fire prevention, safety and firefighting procedures; present and explain fire code requirements and fire prevention information to architects, contractors, attorneys, engineers, fire service personnel, and the general public; conduct fire exit drills to monitor and evaluate evacuation procedures; respond to emergencies on campus such a fire, medical or chemical incidents; control the incidents and return campus to normal operation; develop and coordinate fire prevention programs such as false alarm reduction, fire inspection reporting, and hazardous materials management; investigate causes of fires, collecting and preparing evidence and presenting investigation in court when necessary; supervise staff to include their training work plans and evaluate their performance; arrange for the replacement of defective firefighting equipment and for repair of fire alarm and sprinkler systems; conduct minor repairs such as servicing fire extinguishers when feasible; on call after hours and weekend when scheduled by Fire Marshal; respond to campus off duty during emergencies to control incident and restore campus life safety systems to normal operations; contact repair contractors to make necessary repairs as needed; and perform others duties as assigned.
Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and Fire Marshal, fire prevention and/or fire-fighting experience are required. Must possess and maintain a valid SC driver's license. Must possess and maintain or be able to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire, State Fire Marshal certification, basic first aid, AED and CPR certifications. ICC Inspector Level 2 certification is preferred.

Fire Safety Officer III (JC80/147873) - Full-time position with benefits. State pay band: 06. Normal working hours vary. Position may require some evenings and weekends. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.
