In a fast-paced student focused environment, the Administrative Assistant will balance critical administrative support tasks while also serving as the initial point of contact for the Housing and Residential Life (HRL) office. Key responsibilities include screening, responding to, or appropriately forwarding a variety of inquiries through phone calls, email or in-person visitors from an assortment of student, parents, staff, faculty, alumni or guest within the Cornell Community. Additionally, the Administrative Assistant will support the operational & procedural needs of the HRL by scheduling meetings, coordinating travel, ensuring appropriate meeting spaces, updating team calendars as well as helping with large scale departmental processes, projects and/or committee work as needed.

A successful Administrate Assistant will:

  • Work efficiently, and prioritize appropriately, in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

  • Demonstrate a personable, professional and service-oriented demeanor while contributing to a positive team environment.

  • Be able to problem solve, make decisions independently, and manage confidential, sensitive information with tact and diplomacy.

  • Utilize strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

  • Deliver well-developed written, verbal and visual communications to all levels of staff, students, campus partners and community stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate proficiency with technology and willingness to continually learn new systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education with at least 2 years of relevant experience in an office or related work environment or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as needed on a limited basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional education and/or additional years of related experience including an Associate's Degree in business or related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Housing and Residential Life Programs preferred
  • Proficiency with Adobe products such as Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
