Job Summary

The Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship reports to the Associate Vice President for Constituent Relations and Engagement and is responsible for creating and managing a division-wide comprehensive stewardship-focused donor relations program for donors at all levels to positively reinforce private gift support and engagement. As a critical partner within the Division of University Advancement, the scope of work for this position includes donor relations, stewardship, and related communications. The Director is responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating, and maintaining an active donor engagement program that communicates and celebrates the impact of philanthropy at the University of West Georgia, helping University Advancement in reaching its desired outcomes.

Superior and effective interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy, and the poise and instincts to build strong relationships with all levels within the organization, including leadership, campus colleagues, staff, volunteers, donors, friends, supporters, and UWG communities
Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals
Proven experience in identifying the need for targeted communications and marketing piece
Capability to work under pressure, maintain composure, and make final decisions under tight deadlines through utilizing strategic, problem-solving techniques
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Innate ability to work with cross-functional teams and collaborate with divisional and institutional colleagues
A working knowledge and understanding of donor principles, requirements, procedures, and available resources
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Must have a donor-focused attitude

Required Experience
Minimum of three years of experience in advancement, donor relations, stewardship, fundraising or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience
Preferred experience in stewardship, constituent/donor relations, annual giving in a higher education setting. Master's degree with one year minimum work experience.
Commitment to delivering excellent customer service, the ability to work collaboratively and comfort working with ambiguity.
Experience working with various technologies including advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office suite, database and project management software, and CRM systems.
Prior experience in advancement, fundraising, alumni engagement, nonprofit or university setting.
Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to work evenings and weekends when required.
Standard office environment; may be required to do some light lifting in conjunction with institutional events; must be able to climb stairs and stand on your feet for several hours.
Some travel may be required.

Knowledge of public institution purchasing principles, procedures, regulations, and standards.

Describe the type of decisions this position makes and what are the consequences of error

The Director plans and executes a pristine and authentic acknowledgement process to ensure that all donors are thanked and recognized in a personal, timely and appropriate manner. Failure to use good judgement in the language used, the timing and sincerity of the acknowledgement, and the appropriate tone could adversely affect connection to the institution, fundraising and friend-raising, consistently investment and giving, as well as diminish the reputation of our university. Without the ability to share the ¿must have¿ donor relation elements, such as an honest expression of personal gratitude, the impact of a gift directly tied to how the donor made such a big difference, a story that illustrate a donor¿s impact, a personal signature, a handwritten note in the margin, and more - will result in diminished effectiveness in donor acquisition, growth, and retention. Particularly as it relates to a new capital campaign initiative.
