Work in partnership with the chair, faculty, and staff to manage administrative and sponsored research activities of the Department of International Health and Sustainable Development in the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (SPHTM). Serve as the business/financial officer and marketing and communication manager for the department. Manage overall financial aspects of the department, to include, but not limited to: analyzing department budgets, preparing the annual budget, ensuring adequate ledger/account reconciliation, preparing monthly financial reports, hiring and termination of students, and supporting faculty in developing sponsored research proposals and implementing grants and contracts in compliance with the polices and regulations of the university and sponsors. Oversight of nearly $23,000,000 million in department funding portfolio, including approximately $21,000,000 million in externally sponsored funding, the Senior Department Administrator II is responsible for supporting faculty in the management and oversight of sponsored research program activities, including the preparation of research proposals (pre-awards) and providing logistic, administrative, programmatic, and financial support for sponsored research projects (post-awards). Responsible for overseeing financial management and human resources of overseas offices and the overseas academic activities. Supervises Senior Program Coordinator and Accountant department positions.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and analyze budgets, develop budget projections, and conduct account reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage pre- and post-award activities for federal, industry and foundation grants.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, industry, and foundation regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience with management of staff.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a variety of software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to pro-actively work independently and focus/complete a given assignment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Required Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree 
  • Minimum of ten years of experience with grant and financial administration, including the preparation of research proposals (pre-awards) and providing logistic, administrative, programmatic and financial support of large (in excess of $500K); federal, industry and foundation grants (e.g., Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, CDC, NIH, NSF).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
