Description of Work Unit

The Department of Clinical Sciences mission is to assure the health and productivity of animals to meet societal needs through high quality educational programs for professional veterinary medical students, graduate veterinarians, and the public through a faculty and veterinary medical center of excellence, and to advance and disseminate comparative biomedical knowledge in an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Position Summary

This part-time, 10-20 hrs per week, temporary, flexible hours including some evening availability for appointments, non-student hourly position provides Counseling services for the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Specialist in Training Doctors of Veterinary Medicine (DVMs) at Colorado State University.

Position Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field from an accredited program, licensed in the state of Colorado, or currently working on licensure.
  • 2 years' experience providing direct counseling services to clients.
  • Well-developed clinical and diagnostic skills, the capacity to provide the highest standard of treatment to a diverse clientele.
  • Must have the ability to work flexible hours (evenings and potentially weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing tele-health support to clients
  • 2-3 years post graduate counseling experience.
  • Experience working with newly graduated professionals
  • Work experience in a veterinary or medical setting.

Job Duty Category: Counseling

Duty/Responsibility

Provide individual counseling services to DVMs enrolled in a Specialty Training program within CVMBS.
  • Use appropriate treatment models including brief therapy and problem-based/solution-focused treatment.
  • Maintain a high level of client confidentiality as mandated by the state and Department of Regulatory Agencies.
  • Collaborate with CVMBS, University Health Network Center, Resources for Disabled Students, and Support and Safety to ensure high-quality comprehensive client care.
  • Provide crisis intervention, management, resources, and information to address the crisis.

Job Duty Category: Administration

Duty/Responsibility
  • Schedule appointments and conduct initial intake interviews, identify presenting issues, and the best plan for the therapeutic process.
  • Work with the Assistant Department Head of Clinical Sciences and Academic Support Coordinator on addressing students of concern when required.
  • Complete paperwork including initial assessments, case notes, letters to clients, and administration as necessary.
