Facilities Management Grounds Services has an exciting opportunity for a Grounds Crew Chief opening. Grounds Services maintains nearly 400 acres of stunning grounds at the University of Arizona. We are seeking a diverse career minded candidate with landscape and grounds maintenance experience who also possess the necessary leadership skills and style to supervise and coach a crew of groundskeepers to continue to be the best in the nation through excellent service, while maintaining a safe and accident free environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises
two or more full-time employees, or their equivalent, on a regular basis.
  • Makes
decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination of employees,
or makes related recommendations that are given particular weight.
  • Trains
and monitors staff.
  • Schedules
grounds crew activities over short and long-range periods and assigns
priorities for their completion.
  • Schedules
grounds projects and coordinates receipt of materials.
  • Monitors
all activities with regard to progress and cost; advises supervisor of
significant variations as required.
Coordinates regularly with supervisor and receives guidance as to desired standards or quality of service provided.
  • Reviews landscaped
areas, makes suggestions/recommendations, and implements fertilization or
pesticide programs in partnership with landscape managers.
  • Prepares
and maintains records and reports.
  • Ensures
subordinates compliance with established safety guidelines
  • Promotes, exhibits, and trains
subordinates in proper horticultural maintenance techniques.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Seven years relevant progressive experience including leadership responsibilities.
  • Associates degree in horticulture or related field.
