IT Learning and Development(ITLD), a group under Penn State IT and Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT), is looking for an Instructional Designer to join our team. The Instructional Designer will be responsible fordesigning and deliveringeffective online and face-to-face training to support faculty, staff, and students across the University. This position's primary focus will be the design and development of training focused on Penn State's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

Typically requires aMaster's degree or higher plusfouryears of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The location of this job is flexible and can be performed fully in-person at the University Park campus, or a hybrid model of both in-person and remote within the United States. Candidates must live in the local area or be willing to travel to campus as needed at their own expense.


As a member of the ITLD team, the Instructional Designer will spend most of their time leading and participating in teams responsible for designing a variety of training materials. Training delivery will also be a part of this role. Specific duties include:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining technology tool training resources including facilitator guides, slides, workshops, and online documentation primarily focused on ERP systems.

  • Partnering with subject matter experts and other colleagues to develop pedagogy- and performance-focused training.

  • Acting as an instructional design subject matter expert in consultations with stakeholders across the University community.

  • Delivering training to a diverse and widespread population of faculty, staff, and students.

  • Leading and/or participating in internal and external project teams to support training efforts.


The successful candidate must have:

  • Well-developed understanding of adult learning theories and experience applyingbest practices for thedevelopmentand delivery oflive training inface-to-face and onlineformats

  • Ability to clearly articulate complextechnicalinformation to a variety of audiences

  • Experience developing project plans, managing multiple projects, and meeting project deadlines

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a collaborative team

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills,critical thinking skills, and strong interpersonal skills

Desired qualifications:
  • Experience with applications including Penn StateERP systems, Office 365, Zoom, and other Penn State supported technology tools

  • Skills in eLearning development with toolssuch as Captivate, Camtasia, etc.

  • Graphic design skills and familiarity with PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Cloud, or other design software


ITLDdesigns,develops,and deliverstechnology tooltraining resources for faculty, staff, and students across the Penn State community. ITLD embodies a multimodalapproach to learning that includes live training sessions, instructional videos and training recordings, self-paced Learning Paths, knowledge articles, and web resources.Frequent collaboration with groups internal and external to Penn State IT is part of ITLD's missionto scale training and resources to a large, diverse audience.
