Engaged Cornell Hub Administrative Assistant
Based in Ithaca, N.Y., the David M. Einhorn Center builds service and community-engaged learning as a hallmark of the Cornell student experience by empowering students through campus and community collaborations to create a more just and equitable world. The center will play a key role supporting community-engaged learning and public service across the university, merging the respective efforts of the Public Service Center (PSC) and the Office of Engagement Initiatives (OEI). It will bring high-impact practices, community-engaged learning, and service-oriented programs to students, faculty, and staff while increasingopportunities for partnerships in the local, national, and global arenas. The initiative will be a driving force for student and faculty engagement, impactful partnerships, and transformative leadership and influence in higher education.
Leveraging the existing strengths of Cornell's public engagement agenda, the David M. Einhorn Center will create a new model and direction for higher education - one in which community-engaged learning and service is deeply ingrained, fully institutionalized and effectively taught and implemented. The Engaged Cornell Hub Administrative Assistant will carry out two primary functions within this open and collaborative space. This position will provide key administrative support to the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director of the the David M. Einhorn Center including management and oversight of all aspects of schedules and activities. This position will also serve as a knowledgeable and welcoming presence for the Engaged Hub, providing telephone coverage, receiving and directing visitors, responding to routine inquiries, and serving as the main point of contact for Hub residents for key operational support. In this role, the position will also offer some limited administrative services to the other units and programs housed in the Engaged Cornell Hub, making the role a major contributor to ensuring the proper functioning of Engaged Cornell Hub and the David M. Einhorn Center.
The successful candidate must be a diplomatic problem-solver and a self-starter who can take initiative to determine priorities, provide knowledgeable and professional responses, relay information within the organization in a timely fashion in a fast-paced and high-traffic environment, and be able to interact with both high-level University and external constituents and students in a professional manner at all times. The successful candidate must be a reliable worker, with a friendly and approachable demeanor and solid customer service skills. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are critical in this role, as well as a strong attention to detail and the ability to move between tasks quickly and fluidly.
Please note: This is a two-year fixed-term position. Options to renew thereafter will be based on business needs, available funding and successful performance. There is no visa sponsorship available for this position.
- Formal training beyond a high school diploma of 6 months to 1 year, with a minimum of 2 years of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in maintaining confidential files and records, information management, and financial management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point, Adobe PDF, Zoom and web content management systems.
- Valid Driver's license.
- Experience working in a higher-education environment and enjoy working with college-aged students. Proven success in administrative and event support within academic or similar environment.
- Administrative and project management experience.
- Experience with event planning.
- Familiar with Canva, Qualtrics and Salesforce.
