The SEEDS (Students for Education, Equity, and Direct Service) Program Director works to develop mutually beneficial relationships with community-based organizations in the broader Portland community to provide community engagement opportunities for Reed students. The Program Director is responsible for the ongoing development of a programmatic model rooted in a social justice framework, working with organizations that seek to make material differences in communities most impacted by systemic oppression. In addition, the Program Director oversees the Reed Community Pantry which provides food, clothing, and supplies at no cost to members of the Reed community. This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Institutional Diversity. 

Reed College offers an exceptional benefits package, including comprehensive medical and dental insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with 10% employer contribution (after one year of service), educational assistance for employees and their children, 22 days of paid vacation, paid holidays, half-day Fridays in the summer, and many other campus amenities. This is a full-time, exempt position with a generally predictable work schedule based upon programming events and schedules, which may include some evening and weekend hours. The college’s working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Starting salary for this position is $58,140 per year.

  • You relate well to college-age students while demonstrating both maturity and leadership.
  • You have three or more years of program management experience.
  • You are committed to developing students’ understanding of critical, ethical, and effective community engagement no matter their level of prior exposure or experience.
  • You are skilled in program and project management, event planning, and assessment.
  • You can establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with a wide range of constituencies, including on- and off- campus partners. 
  • You enjoy implementing and evaluating programs and initiatives.
  • You are a problem-solver, conflict mediator, and able to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • You take initiative and are self-motivated.
  • You have experience presenting to audiences of varying sizes and contexts, and facilitating workshops and discussions.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide leadership in the development, planning, implementation, and execution of community engagement programs and events including administrative, programmatic, and fiscal oversight.
  • Oversee community engagement programs and lead a team of student coordinators.
  • Collaborate closely with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to develop and integrate co-curricular and curricular opportunities that utilize community engagement as a means for student learning and development. This includes working closely with faculty members on academic partnerships. 
  • Oversee the Reed Community Pantry which provides food, clothing, and supplies at no cost to members of the Reed community.
  • Build, strengthen, and maintain relationships with community partners working in social justice work to explore potential partnerships, discuss emerging strategies for social change, and build coalitions.
  • Cultivate interest in and understanding of community-engaged learning and promote opportunities for critical, ethical, and effective community engagement.
  • Support the community engagement efforts of faculty, staff, and students at Reed.
  • Develop outreach and marketing strategies including maintaining SEEDS website, social media, and listserv, publicizing relevant information to community members and partners.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate 10-15 student workers.
