Job Description:

The Saybrook University College of Social Science seeks to hire a Program Coordinator for the Clinical Psychology degree program. This is a full-time position, at 1.0FTE. The successful applicant will serve under the direction of Clinical Psychology degree program Chair and represent the department on university initiatives. The Program Coordinator will partner with the program Chair and Academic Advising Faculty in the overall management of the degree program in relation to the student experience, specifically in the areas of recruitment, retention, and matriculation.

The position begins August 1, 2021 and remains open until filled.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • New Student Orientation and Residential/Educational Conferences
    • Support on-boarding of new students
    • Present courses, workshops and/or course introductions
    • Attend meetings of (Faculty, Degree Program, College (CSS) & University); along with required Faculty trainings which may include Canvas learning platform, Institutional Review Board (IRB), student record system (SMS) etc.
  • Student Advising and Retention
    • Provide student advisement and management oversight (including program planning)
    • Coordinate and facilitate management of Graduate Colloquium course shells
    • Actively support the socialization of students into the degree program and profession
    • Implement effective and innovative projects/procedures that promote student retention and matriculation
    • Chair the Student Self-assessment Process (SSAP) and Student Development Assessment Process (S-DAP) committees
  • Department Administration
    • Assist chair in reviewing and supporting degree program policies; revising catalog requirements, and updating the website managers with program changes
  • Co-facilitate communication of new academic policies and procedures, as well as grading/evaluation due dates to faculty and students.
  • Participate in the coordination of department syllabi production, course scheduling, and student enrollment
  • Instruction, Course Development, and Syllabus Review/Updating
    • Deliver high quality innovative campus and/or on-line courses that foster critical thinking and deepens clinical practice
    • Ensure rigorous academic standards and quality aligned with program goals
    • Design dynamic courses utilizing the latest developments, trends and best practices in classroom instruction and digital technology
  • Governance
    • Assist as needed with admissions, orientation/conference planning, WASC accreditation review, and other shared governance responsibilities
    • Actively participate in degree and departmental meetings
    • Represent the degree program on university-wide committees by request
    • Participate in the accreditation and, when appropriate, budget process
    • Contribute to strategic planning and programmatic growth
    • Maintain effective professional and community involvement and/or affiliations as an ambassador for the university
Faculty Engagement

All faculty members at Saybrook University are expected to be available and responsive to students. Faculty engagement expectations include:

  • Faculty will make contact with students enrolled in their course within the first week of the new semester and before the residential or educational conference.
  • Faculty will respond to emails or phone calls and acknowledge received assignments within two business days.
  • For courses with weekly discussions, faculty will be in contact with students at least three times per week for online courses to provide substantive contributions and respond to student posts. This will include engagement across the duration of the weekly discussions.
  • For individually mentored courses, faculty will schedule with each student regular online and off-line communication.
  • For other course designs, faculty will demonstrate how they are engaging students in a consistent and meaningful way across the semester or term.
  • Faculty will return student papers with feedback for course assignments submitted through Canvas within the following guidelines:
    • 1 week for work less than 5 pages in length,
    • 2 weeks for work up to 25 pages in length,
    • 3 weeks for work 26-50 pages in length (and for final thesis/project),
    • 4 weeks for work over 50 pages in length (applies to dissertation only).
Position Requirements:
  • Doctorate degree from regionally accredited academic institution
  • Licensed clinical psychologist (Ph.D. or PsyD) with at least 5 years of clinical experience
  • Experience in advising and mentoring graduate students; generative and innovative approaches towards retention and remediation
  • Demonstrates scholarship and/or accomplishments in the field, specifically a strong background in Humanistic Psychology and/or Existential or Transpersonal studies
  • Relevant supervision and teaching experience at the doctoral level, including supervision of dissertation research
  • Demonstrated commitment to multicultural, social justice, and humanistic principles
  • Experience with ethnically diverse and/or other special populations
  • Travel to residential conferences at the start of the term each year; other travel may be required
  • Maintain a scholar-practitioner model in terms of professional and community activities, serving as a professional ambassador and student mentor
