Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, affiliated with the Children's Hospital of New Mexico, is seeking an academic neonatologist with a strong interest in basic, translational, and/or clinical research. The selected candidate will receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics, rank and salary will be commensurate with training and experience. This full-time position offers a competitive salary, and a rich retirement benefit program. The Department offers a very supportive research environment and mentoring program for academic growth and faculty development. The Division is a member of the NICHD Neonatal Research Network and has other active NIH funded research programs in place. The Division also has a very successful, research-oriented neurodevelopmental follow-up program that is crucial for neonatal clinical studies. The Mind Research Network, the Biomedical Research and Integrative Neuroimaging (BRaIN) Center, Brain and Behavioral Health Institute, and Center for Development and Disability at the University of New Mexico provide rich resources and facilities for Neuroscience Research. The Department of Pediatrics is a member of the NIH-funded Idea States Pediatric Clinical Trial Network (ISPCTN). The UNM Health Sciences Center also has an NIH-funded Clinical and Translational Science Center with a long-standing pediatric and neonatal research component, including Mentored Career Development Program (KL2).

The Division of Neonatology provides patient care in a culturally diverse, family-centered 52 bed Level IV NICU in a beautiful Children's Hospital that opened in 2007. The night coverage is provided by an in-house NNP/PA team and neonatal fellows, with close supervision by the attending neonatologist who takes call from home. The Division is the only Level IV NICU in the state of New Mexico, with one of the largest Hispanic and Native American populations in North America. As the premier medical center in the state, we offer a full-service NICU facility, an ECMO program, a high-risk perinatal unit, air and ground transport that services the entire state, a fully accredited fellowship program, and a sophisticated developmental care follow-up program. UNM School of Medicine is a nationally recognized leader in medical education and a major center for health care and research. Albuquerque is known for beautiful sunny weather, with over 250 sunny days a year, clear skies and abundant opportunity for outdoor activities, including many close ski areas. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Board certified / Board eligible in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine by time of hire
  • Able to obtain state licensure(s) in the state of New Mexico
  • Completion of Fellowship in Neonatology by time of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or interest in conducting basic, translational and/or clinical research
  • Demonstrated experience with external funding
  • Experience in teaching/mentoring (learners) house staff and medical students
  • A demonstrated experience with QI projects
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
