Our Team:

The Budget and Finance Team within the SC Johnson College of Business supports strategic and transactional financial operations across our three schools, our central college unit and the Statler Hotel across our two campuses in Ithaca and NYC. This team consists of individuals who take a progressive approach to financial planning and reporting, utilizing data-driven techniques and tools to support our College's mission and enhance our organizational effectiveness.

This Position:

The Finance and Budget Representative will work collaboratively to provide finance support to the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management Departments and Degree Programs and the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business Departments of Human Resources, Academic Affairs, Dean's Office, and External Relations. The Finance and Budget Representative will be responsible for processing monthly reconciliation of assigned accounts; investigating, researching and resolving discrepancies, referring questionable cases to the Finance Manager. In addition, this role is primarily responsible for reconciling and confirming the processing of tuition and financial aid distributions to accurate accounts, working closely with the Johnson Registrar and University Bursars. They will handle degree program bursar billings, various transactions and credit card payment reconciliations, to ensure these processes are accurately reflected in the system. This position will manage and provide reporting on all Research and Professional Funds (RPF), Teaching, Area Theme, and Discretionary Research and Teaching Funds (DRTF) accounts for the college. They will support the Sponsored Associate Financial Analysts with contract and grant account setups, non-financial agreements, no cost extensions, and budget modifications.

As a key part of the Finance team, the Finance and Budget Representative will assist with annual budget, forecasting, and year end close cycles for Johnson and college central departments. This role will act as a backup to the other Financial Representative in co-monitoring the JCB Central Outlook mailbox and providing support to fellow team members as necessary to meet departmental demands and deadlines. It is crucial that this position stays current in Cornell University policies and procedures related to finance, participating in trainings through the Division of Financial Affairs (DFA). This position requires communication and collaboration with budget owners, and business partners to plan and execute activities. Strict confidentially and ethical judgment is critical at all times.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in accounting, finance or business administration and at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to perform appropriate data analysis, budget, forecasting and general ledger reconciliation.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly, confidently and concisely in both written and verbal formats.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills, as well as strong inter-personal skills required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Excel and Word as well as financial and data management systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with a team, with high ethical standards including confidentiality.
  • Must willing and able to enhance personal knowledge, skills, and abilities to grow and excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or other related field.
  • Experience with Cornell PeopleSoft System, KFS Application and Dashboard reporting, other financial systems.
