Reporting directly to the Provost, the Vice Provost will have responsibility over a broad range of areas in academic affairs with a focus on academic programs, curriculum development, program review, assessment, accreditation and regulatory requirements. This position provides innovative and collaborative leadership to ensure that goals and initiatives align with the University’s overall mission and strategic plan. Lead the creation and implementation of effective and quality academic programs and curriculum, supervise the university work related to accreditation, assessment and institutional research.

The successful candidate will be a strategic, innovative, team player and results-oriented leader with a track record of success – setting clear expectations, inspiring people, collaborating across the institution, and managing effectively. This individual must show evidence of a deep appreciation for teaching, learning, and scholarship, a deep commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as well a strong understanding of the internal economics of the academic enterprise and the current challenges facing higher education.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Serves as a leader on the Provost’s team to enact the university’s strategic goals and provides direction and executive oversight that promotes academic excellence.
  • Serves on the Academic Cabinet and collaborates with deans, vice provosts, directors to review and optimize academic portfolio.
  • Collaborates with the enrollment team as well as community partners to identify existing and emerging market needs for new programs and/or the transformation of existing programs. Develops and implements appropriate strategies to bring such opportunities to fruition.
  • Ensures that programs offered are relevant to students’ needs, is current with business and community expectations, and meets or exceeds the University’s academic and external accreditation standards.
  • Guides and manages a comprehensive academic system of high quality and relevant programs and curriculum offerings of the University; oversees new program development, the annual program report process, and ongoing review of the academic portfolio in collaboration with faculty and enrollment team.
  • Fosters a culture and processes that are informed and guided by data. Serves as a driver in focusing on and improving key metrics including retention, completion, employment, and learning outcomes, particularly as they relate to program quality.
  • Leads the universities assessment effort, supervises and works closely with the Director of Assessment to ensure quality program offerings. Works with Deans, Program Directors and Chairs to complete annual program assessment requirements.
  • Leads the universities accreditation work and supervise the work of the Director of Accreditation to ensure university compliance with regional accreditation (Higher Learning Commission) as well as specialized accreditation by (APA, CACREP, CAPP,…)
  • Supervises the work of the Director of Institutional Research and ensures the university compliance with all regulatory requirements at the federal and state levels in Illinois and Florida.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends, issues, technologies and processes by researching applicable literature, programs, services, and attending various seminars and conferences.
  • Serves on the President’s Cabinet* Collaborates with the Executive Director of the Florida Campus to ensure alignment between Illinois and Florida programs while exploring opportunities for new programs.
  • Maintains a regular presence on campus and work with all stakeholders to advance the organizational culture, which is based on student-centeredness, accountability, and collaboration.

Competencies, Skills and Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree required. Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of related higher education or related administrative experience relevant to academic programs and accreditation* Effective management and change leadership skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in working with various internal and external constituencies
  • Keeps informed about market conditions, competitive information and political factors that may impact the goals and interests of the organization. Uses good judgment about when to share external information as well as who should be informed. Stays up-to-date on trends and projections and sees what is on the horizon.
  • Understands the internal climate of the organization, including the most productive channels of communication, and makes use of the appropriate communication channels to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Be thoughtful and exercise good judgment when selecting strategies for accomplishing tasks that will strengthen the long-term standing of the institution.
  • Takes a proactive approach to anticipating and preventing problems. When problems occur, defines those problems, investigates obstacles, gathers relevant information, decides whether solving the problem should be a group decision, generates and analyzes alternate solutions and arrives at a workable solution.
