JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

As the locus for all the University's global engagements, Global Programs is an area of opportunity for those seeking a career in the field of international education. Global Programs is seeking a seasoned global safety analyst to work in the Global Safety Office. This role reports to the Global Safety Manager and is part of the four-member Global Safety team, and steps in to lead the team when the manager is out.

The position's focus is analyzing world events and implementing global operations policies, best practices, and trainings on health, safety, and security for students, faculty, and staff traveling internationally. This includes providing 24/7 emergency response for travelers, conducting emergency preparedness workshops, advising travelers on recording their information in the Travel Safety Network database, reviewing international travel records for compliance, assisting travelers with the University's international health insurance policy, conducting international site visits, and analyzing and reporting on significant international developments that could impact University travelers. This includes some nights and weekends on call.

The individual in this role conducts independent research and analysis of proposed high risk international travel, recommends possible risk mitigation measures, including creative ideas for different contexts, and consults directly with travelers. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought new challenges to this field and the position increasingly involves creative thinking and flexibility in how to adapt our policies and procedures to dynamic international conditions.The position interacts with a broad spectrum of internal and external constituents - including students, faculty, senior university administrators, and external clients. The position is expected to provide exemplary customer service to all.

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience living, working, or traveling abroad is required since the position regularly consults on the safety of travel to specific locations and should be able to draw on personal experience. Desired attributes include knowledge of global issues, international travel experience in a variety of countries and contexts, strong oral and written communication skills, sound judgment and a high degree of professionalism in handling emergencies or confidential situations, attention to detail, ability to lead, and a commitment to teamwork. Experience with international security or intelligence analysis, international insurance, crisis/emergency management, international education, and/or Terra Dotta software desirable. Candidates should demonstrate how their past experience prepares them to advise university travelers on international safety and security issues and to effectively handle dynamic and stressful situations abroad that require immediate action and sensitivity to support university travelers.
