The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is recognized internationally as a leader in animal medicine, public health, biomedical research, and veterinary medical education. Ranked as one of the top veterinary colleges in the nation by US News & World Report, the College excels in providing education and advanced training that prepare veterinarians and scientists to serve society in critical roles in clinical and diagnostic veterinary medicine, public health, scientific inquiry, and public policy.

The Dean's Office within the CVM is home to the Dean of the College, numerous Associate Deans and Assistant Deans, and their Administrative Assistants, who work collaboratively to meet the needs of the various constituents of the College.

The Administrative Assistant will sit within the Dean's Office and serve as the principal liaison to the Assistant Dean for Inclusion and Academic Excellence. They will be an effective working partner to the members of the executive leadership team, providing senior-level executive assistance and organizational support to ensure the success of the College's programs.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

As the administrative support provider, develop and maintain a broad understanding of the Associate and Assistant Dean's areas of responsibilities, including knowledge of policies, practices, goals, and a comprehensive knowledge of the scope of their work individually, as well as how they all intersect, and foster a collaborative working environment. Demonstrating proactive initiative, good judgement, and a high-level of professionalism and confidentiality, assess situations as they arise, and assist in determining appropriate actions; advise on policies and procedures; and act as a liaison on highly confidential matters for faculty, staff, and outside stakeholders. Use honed service skills to create a positive, professional, and collaborative setting.

Provide a wide variety of advanced administrative, organizational, and technical support to facilitate coordination and efficiency of work and flow of information. Specifically, the individual will support calendars, travel, communications, records, and budgets, as well as special projects related to the implementation of objectives in the College strategic plan. Collaborate effectively with key units across the college including the Office of Inclusion and Academic Excellence and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Board. Manage Digital Content (website and social media)

Employees are expected to meet all of the Cornell University Staff Skills for Success, which are essential for individual and organizational success.

Employees may be required to work outside of normal business hours, including occasional holidays, evenings, and weekends.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree with at least four years of experience providing executive level administrative support, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to identify and troubleshoot issues
  • Superb organizational skills, with proven ability to successfully manage multiple assignments and conflicting priorities simultaneously
  • Must be comfortable taking initiative with little guidance, and seeing projects to completion, interfacing with all levels of the college/university in a professional and goal-oriented manner
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive/confidential information with discretion
  • Proficiency with commercial computer software programs, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, with the ability to learn new software quickly

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education
  • Working knowledge of Cornell accounting/budgeting/purchasing/Human Resource policies and procedures
