What you will do:
eCornell Senior STEM Instructional Designers create best-in-class online learning solutions primarily across STEM disciplines, drawing upon multimedia, progressive instructional principles, varied coding environments, advanced mathematics, and strong collaboration abilities. As Senior members of the Instructional Design team, they are expected to manage heavier course loads and truncated development timelines, and successfully execute upon some of the most complex and ambiguous development opportunities brought into the organization. They are also expected to be capable of reviewing the work of staff Instructional Designers and Instructional Design Associates, providing feedback and mentorship to enable ongoing growth.
Like all eCornell Instructional Designers, Senior STEM Instructional Designers work in collaboration with Cornell University faculty, Product Management, Creative Services, and Project Management teams to effectively design and develop online learning products that meet student needs on time and on budget, while also providing a positive faculty experience. eCornell Instructional Designers are expected to be capable of designing and developing a range of online learning products (including certificate programs, for-credit programs, blended programs, etc.) according to eCornell instructional, content, and branding guidelines.
What we need:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and 8 years of professional experience in the instructional design field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proven ability to design, develop, and deliver impactful online learning programs for technical content.
A constructive and positive attitude; excellent interpersonal, influencing, and negotiating skills.
Highly motivated and driven to achieve project goals and requirements that are urgent, demonstrating ownership and accountability for results.
Proven ability to effectively navigate amidst ambiguity and rapid change.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong collaborative qualities, and the ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms to SMEs (subject matter experts) and students.
Excellent editorial skills, including the ability to author course content in a conversational tone and storytelling capabilities.
Excellent time and project management skills; proven ability to simultaneously manage multiple complex projects with competing deadlines, ensuring timely delivery.
Creative, practical troubleshooting skills, including: problem-identification, problem-reporting, and problem-solving skills.
Active interest in adult learning theory and emerging approaches to STEM-focused online learning, including, but not limited to, social networking, mobile learning, problem-based learning, story-based learning, etc.
Ability to work efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision.
Maintains progressive knowledge of the trends in instructional design, learning methodologies and learning technology solutions.
Mentor other Instructional Designers and champion the design goals of the organization.
Proven track record of managing multi-faceted projects with the ability to drive through completion.
Ability to manage ambiguous projects, identify and solve blockers, and know when to escalate to keep the project moving forward.

This position is located in Ithaca, New York. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the University's decision to limit the number of on-campus employees, the successful applicant will be asked to perform this role remotely at a location of their choice in the United States for a limited time, only until the University can permit more employees to work on campus. Once the University permits more employees to work on campus, the successful applicant will be expected to work on the Ithaca campus, although they may be permitted perform a portion of their work remotely.
The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.
