Outdoor Leadership & Recreation Faculty/Department Chair

Regular Faculty work under the direction of their respective Associate Dean/Division Dean and are responsible for meeting all scheduled classes/labs/clinics and providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the College and the Department Chair's approved course outline. Regular Faculty are also responsible for using teaching methods and media designed to reach students of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each student the opportunity to master the objectives of the course.
This position will serve as the Department Chair. The Department Chair shall work under the direction of the Division Dean/Associate Deans and shall assist by providing leadership in curriculum and instruction, and by supervising adjunct instructors and programs as assigned by the Dean. The Department Chair is responsible for all aspects of the program including organization, administration, accreditation, continuous review, planning, development and general effectiveness of the program. Department Chairs are members of the regular faculty of the college and as such, teaching remains the primary responsibility.
The required teaching schedule is August to May. The required pay schedule is September to August.
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Current Wilderness First Responder or must obtain within six months of start date, August 23, 2021.
- Possess or be eligible to receive postsecondary CTE credential including 4,000 non-teaching occupational hours within the last seven years
- Demonstrated ability to work with underrepresented populations in successful efforts to close the achievement gap.
- Strong ability to network within the outdoor and recreation community.
- Current certifications for course disciplines taught (AMGA, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and prioritize.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze information and evaluate results.
- Demonstrated teaching or training experience.

- Keep scheduled office hours, including providing regular student office hours.
- Meets classes as scheduled for prescribed time.
- Submits required reports and documents.

- Assist, as requested, with the development of the term class schedule and the college catalog.
- Assist with curriculum review, revision, development and implementation within the department.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of course outlines and course syllabi.
- Assist in textbook selection and adoption.
- Assist with student advising and student registration.
- Maintain a program advisory committee, as appropriate.
- Participate in professional development activities as requested by the dean.
- Assist with program reviews as required by appropriate agencies, e.g., NCA.
- Serve on college discipline, department, and community committees and task forces on behalf of the college.
- Assist with Divisional activities as requested by the dean.
- Assist with student recruitment as appropriate.
- Assist with the development and implementation of alternative modes of instructional delivery, e.g., Internet or ITV, as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the dean, the Vice President for Instructional Services and/or the College President.
