Coordinator of Student Competency Development Programs

The Office of Student Leadership and Engagement at The University of Tampa has an opening for a Coordinator of Student Competency Development Programs. This position is responsible for developing and sustaining career readiness and life skills education programs and resources and collaborating with other departments to cultivate Spartan Ready, a campus-wide competency development initiative. The Coordinator will foster student employment development and relevant professional development programs. As a member of the Office of Student Affairs, this position will uphold the values of diversity and inclusion, collaboration, personal responsibility, professionalism and community and citizenship. Spartan Ready: Graduating students from the University of Tampa who are prepared to be successful professionals with an advanced understanding of their field of study, the interdisciplinary workplace, how to be effective leaders, and engaged citizens who contribute to society. 

This position is designated as an essential employee and may be required to report to work as scheduled when University offices are closed due to severe weather or other conditions.

Responsibilities 

  • Cultivate Spartan Ready competency development within co-curricular student experiences and student organizations.
  • Coordinate life skills education programs.
  • Coordinate Quest to Spartan Ready, an experiential retreat focused on competency development.
  • Create an annual career readiness and life skills education calendar that incorporates existing and related cross-campus programs.
  • Promote programs and resources to students and families during university-wide programming.
  • Design a marketing strategy to promote Spartan Ready and life skills education programs to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Recruit facilitators and speakers for Spartan Ready and life skills Skillshops and programs.
  • Oversee Spartan Ready and life skills education program budgets.
  • Collaborate with Director of Orientation and Family Engagement to infuse Spartan Ready into Welcome Week programming.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Diversity and Leadership Education to facilitate ELITE (an early orientation program) and other leadership programs.
  • Create, collect, and promote web-based and campus life skills resources.
  • Develop a student employment skills development paradigm, including development of a student employment supervisor training program and coordination of the student employee enrichment and development program.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Career Services on student professional development initiatives.
  • Coordinate Office of Student Leadership and Engagement student staff professional and personal development.
  • Supervise Competency Development student coordinator(s) and Spartan Fellows.
  • Oversee the Spartan Mentors program.
  • Develop learning outcomes for programs and conduct assessment at regular intervals to inform program growth.
  • Attend trainings and fully engage in learning and utilizing university-wide technology, specifically Workday, and other department specific technology platforms.
  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs, College Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Business, Human Resources, Sociology, Psychology, or related field required.
  • Two to three years of program development in a higher education environment.
  • Ability to apply student development theory and learning outcomes assessment to program development.
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders to produce student learning-centered programs.
  • Experience in small to mid-sized university.
  • Two to three years of experience with employee or student training.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
