The Association of Religion Data Archives (ARDA) is looking for an undergraduate research assistant to document basic information about religious denominations in the United States. This includes writing brief descriptions, locating their websites (if applicable), and identifying their relationship (if any) to other religious denominations. The research assistant will work closely with an ARDA staff member on this project. The duration of the position is flexible, though it is expected to last several months with part-time hours (e.g., 5-10 hours a week), paying between $10-$15/hour. The position is expected to be virtual for the indefinite future.

The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented and organized, as many religious denominations have only subtle differences that must be accurately recognized and documented. Candidates should also be comfortable using an encyclopedia (provided) and keeping track of large amounts of information. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel (or Google Sheets) is required. Additionally, having basic knowledge of religious groups in the United States is strongly preferred. This is especially true for knowledge of Protestantism and Catholicism, as these two groups account for most religious denominations in the United States.

Penn State is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all of its forms. We embrace individual uniqueness, foster a culture of inclusion that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives, leverage the educational and institutional benefits of diversity, and engage all individuals to help them thrive. We value inclusion as a core strength and an essential element of our public service mission.
