The Division of Financial Affairs is looking for a Financial Compliance Analyst to join their dynamic team, This position will have a primary focus of enhancing the internal control framework across the university through a focus on effective internal control plans, integrated project/change management and implementation. What you will do:

Based on general direction from the Associate Controller, the Financial Compliance Analyst provides leadership and direction for the establishment and maintenance of a university-wide strong internal control plan. The position is responsible for identifying process improvement opportunities and collaborating with campus leadership to scope and ensure alignment with strategic priorities.

This position participates in projects with university stakeholders (including Weill Cornell Medicine) to help ensure accurate and effective GAAP financial statements and establish sound internal controls grounded in the principles of the COSO framework. The position also reviews policies and procedures for improved consistencies, efficiencies, and effectiveness with emphasis on meeting unit (whether division, college or department) needs for financial processing. To accomplish the above, this position works closely with and accommodates the needs of financial personnel in various units across the University. The Financial Compliance Analyst is responsible for staying current on regulatory and other issues affecting accounting and reporting and understanding at a high level the mission and operations of major units across campus.

This position is located in Ithaca, New York. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the University's need to limit the number of on-campus employees, the successful applicant will be asked to perform this role remotely in the United States. This position may be considered for ongoing remote-work status, even once the campus permits more employees to work on campus.

The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.

You will need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting with at least five years of experience in process improvement, business operations, internal controls, financial accounting, analysis, or reporting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial and internal control concepts is a must.

  • A high degree of integrity, diplomacy, professional competence, organization team building capability, successful problem-solving experience, and a demonstrated ability to lead and manage change.

  • Strong analytical and financial skills as well as leadership, interpersonal, communication (verbal/written), detail-oriented, complex problem solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills in addition to the ability to drive and guide change are required.

  • Ability to prioritize, work both independently and in collaboration with diverse individuals is essential.

  • Exceptional relationship, team building, and influence skills required.

  • Must possess initiative, self-direction and strong follow-through on all projects with the ability to bring projects to timely completion.

  • Advanced information technology skills with a working knowledge of integrated administrative and financial software systems, data marts, collaborative applications such as OneNote, SharePoint and the latest Microsoft Office suite is essential.

If you have any of the following, it's a great bonus:

  • Master's degree in accounting or MBA preferred.

  • CPA preferred.

  • Experience in higher education and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university administration (including upper management), staff, faculty, and students as well as external contacts preferred.

  • Prior experience in project management, six sigma, interpreting various rules and regulations is desired.

  • Experience using data analytics and visualization tools such as Tableau is preferred.
