Job Summary

The Coordinator will plan, develop and direct a complete program of fire in-service training courses in cooperation with all other public safety programs and team members at the Public Safety Training Complex.

The Coordinator will be required to use initiative, discretion and specialized knowledge to develop strategies in the attainment of the desired objectives of a cohesive training environment for all public safety programs and academies at the Schoolcraft College Public Training Complex under the direct supervision of the Associate Dean of Public Safety Programs.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Fire Technology or related field.
  2. State certified professional fire fighter with a minimum of five (5) years experience.
  3. State certified fire fighter instructor with a minimum of five (5) years experience.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with students, public safety training staff, other staff members of Schoolcraft College, fire fighting organizations and Fire Fighting Training Council staff.
  5. Excellent verbal and written skills.
  6. Ability to prepare and present professional reports to supervisors and the training council.
  7. Ability to understand and operate appropriate office equipment, including personal computers and working knowledge of department-specific software.
  8. Ability to prepare and manage training grant funds.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master's Degree in Fire Technology or a related field.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
