GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Illinois Tech is seeking to fill several Major Gift Officer and Senior Engagement & Major Gift Officer positions.

The Senior Engagement and Major Gifts Officer is responsible for the qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of gifts of $100,000+. He/she will be expected to strategically engage and cultivate a portfolio of 75 to 125 major gift prospects to ultimately solicit such prospects for a major gift. He/she will be expected to strategically engage others in this process including the University President, Deans, faculty, trustees, outside volunteers, and colleagues within the Office of Institutional Advancement, for IIT operates within a highly collaborative culture. This position will have relationship management responsibilities in Chicago and a defined region(s) outside of Chicago. In addition, this individual may be responsible for managing specific fundraising projects which support university-wide priorities. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Major Gifts and Gift Planning.

Out-of-state travel required.

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • -A minimum of 5 years of fundraising experience which involves personal cultivation and solicitation
  • Ability to travel both in state and out of state
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • A minimum of 7 years of fundraising experience in the complex environment of a higher education institution
  • Campaign experience
  • Interest in architecture as well as the Chicago arts, community Experience or interest working with STEM+ (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Business, and Architecture preferred).

Knowledge & Skills

Excellent writing, listening, and verbal communication skills. Self-starter with an ability to prioritize independently to meet due dates/timelines. Ability to work independently and desire to be part of a team is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibility

Secures gifts for the University from individual prospective donors: Identifies, cultivates and solicits top tier prospects with major gift ratings with an emphasis on $100,000 and higher, including Leadership Gift prospects ($1M-$4.9M); recommends and implements cultivation and solicitation strategies for individual prospects; builds commitment to the university through appropriate engagement activities. Facilitates the relationship between key University representatives (faculty & staff) and prospects; keeps abreast of institutional and departmental priorities, University programs, personalities and events. Mentors, motivates, and supports volunteer leadership to help advance efforts with assigned prospects. Using a “moves management” system, actively develops and manages a portfolio of 75-125 prospects from qualification through cultivation and solicitation to closing, and then active stewardship. This individual will work with colleagues in donor relations and stewardship to develop gift agreements and donor acknowledgements. Achieves annual metrics which are reviewed annually.

Key Responsibility

Manages portfolio in conformity with IIT’s prospect management protocol. Actively participates in prospect review sessions to develop the best strategies for assigned prospects. Documents donor prospect contact per university protocols; adheres to prospect management policy and process for assignments, proposal development and portfolio maintenance. Works with Prospect Research and Management team to ensure that portfolio and solicitation data in the IIT Raiser’s Edge database is current and accurate.

Key Responsibility

Manages fundraising projects for university-wide priorities: Oversee university-wide project based fundraising initiatives working with different teams and departments across campus. In concert with team members, develops fundraising plans that include gift table, prospect lists, gift opportunities and case for support. Ensures that collateral materials are available for fundraising staff for the relevant project. Trains colleagues and updates them on new developments and gift opportunities.Actively participates in appropriate university-wide efforts, campaign planning, and other management meetings. Serves as IIT ambassador at alumni and development events.

Key Responsibility

Participates in Constituent Engagement programs as needed: Including solicitation of managed prospects for annual gifts; participation in Reunion and/or other affinity fundraising programs. Participates in staff meetings, major gift officer meetings, and university events both on and off campus designed to enhance donor engagement. Performs other duties as assigned.
