Job-Specific Responsibilities
We are looking for an independent and motivated research associate to join a group led by Adam Granger under the supervision of Bernardo Sabatini at Harvard Medical School. Our research is broadly interested in the molecular, cellular, and circuit mechanisms that underly neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disease. We use a wide range of techniques including biochemistry, virology, electrophysiology, and advanced microscopy to study how cells and circuits in the brain operate in healthy conditions and during disease states. In particular, we are recruiting for a project that will study how microglial phagocytosis changes and contributes to neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease.

Successful candidates will be independent, outgoing, flexible, self-motivated, and able to assimilate new information and execute quickly. You will have the opportunity to direct an independent research project while taking advantage of the diverse, welcoming, and exciting team of researchers at the Sabatini lab.

Duties of this position will include:
  • Biochemical extraction, isolation, and analysis of mouse brain tissue.
  • Mouse husbandry.
  • Tissue culture of heterologous and neuronal cells.
  • Processing of mouse brain tissue for anatomical and spatial transcriptomic analysis.
  • Basic molecular biology including plasmid construction, transfection, and expression screening.
  • Data and Imaging analysis.
  • Careful record keeping and documentation of experimental protocols and results.
  • Attend and present at team meetings to share results and plan experiments.
  • Oversee lab stocks to help manage the ordering of reagents and supplies.
  • Help with the adherence to lab safety and animal care use.
  • Other duties as needed
Basic Qualifications
College background and at least one year of related lab experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills
Excellent organizational and communication skills are required. BS. Or M.S. with prior experience in a wet lab environment - Experience with biochemistry including immunoprecipitation, western blots, and proteomics highly desirable. Experience or willingness to work with mice, manage a mouse colony, and perform survival and non-survival procedures as necessary, a must. Candidates should be communicative with excellent interpersonal skills, attentive to detail, organized, and thoughtful about the protocols and techniques being executed. Creativity, flexibility, and perseverance to troubleshoot and overcome inevitable experimental difficulties and changing experimental goals in light of new results. Must be able to schedule time and accomplish multiple experiments within a single day. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience with the ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve and be capable of carefully following standard operating procedures and accurately making notations when deviations occur. This position is for a 12-month term with the option to renew, we'd ideally prefer a candidate who is looking to stay for 2 years.

This is a 12-month term appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding.
