The primary objective of this position is to support Research Faculty with microbiological laboratory and research functions at the Virginia Seafood AREC. This position will contribute in development of a nationally and internationally recognized and extramurally funded multidisciplinary research program focusing on Sustainable Food Production Systems. The position will also help develop and maintain working relationships with key program stakeholders. The Lab Technician will also be helping to supervise interns and undergraduate/graduate students. The position will be located at the VSAREC in Hampton, Virginia. Must already be able to work legally in the US (project timeline mandates immediate start).
A Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Food Science, Biology, (or a closely related field) or equivalent, applicable experience & training. Significant experience in microbiology. Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to manage the lab, and assist in preparation of manuscripts and presentations.
Master's degree, experience in working on a dynamic multi-disciplinary research environment, self-motivated, and team player. Experience in cell culture or molecular biology.
