Job Summary/Basic Function:
The First-Year Coordinator will support the success of first-year students at Weber State University by performing several coordinating functions, including resource referral, administrative support, and marketing and coordination and will implement and develop the FAST Start Program.

Resource Referral. The incumbent will serve as a resource to first-year students, advisors, and others regarding programs, courses, and departments designed to support student success in general, and first-year student success in particular, including programs that help students gain momentum in the first year, succeed in gateway courses, and develop a sense of belonging at the University. First-year programs are located throughout campus and include, but are not limited to, FAST Start, Wildcat Scholars, new co-requisite courses in MATH and ENGL, SSS and TRiO programs, LEAP, Developmental Math, Developmental English, and FYE/UNIV 1005.

Program administration. The incumbent will have primary responsibility for coordinating student enrollment in FAST Start program courses, including reviewing student enrollment to ensure a fit with the student's academic goals and coordinating placement testing for students who have not received a Math or English placement. Also, the incumbent will provide student progress data to the First Year Council. The Council is responsible for coordinating all the programs and classes designed to support first-year students.

Marketing and Coordination. The incumbent will manage the first-year website and implement other first-year initiatives and also collaborate with all first-year programs and classes. The incumbent will host social and academic activities for first-year students, especially those in the FAST Start program, and market the FAST Start program.

This position is a 12-month full time position in Academic Support Centers and Programs with a direct report to the Director of Learning Support and the Executive Director of the Student Success Center.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree.
  • One year of relative experience.
  • Experience and competency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, and ability to master new technologies quickly.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in a discipline relevant to the position.
  • Previous experience advising, counseling, or working in a teaching environment.
  • Strong understanding of the needs and challenges facing first-year students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Evidence of potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
