Job Summary
Ariadne Labs is a joint center for health systems innovation at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health. Ariadne Labs currently has research programs in the areas of childbirth, surgery, and palliative care.

The part-time Senior Qualitative Specialist will be a key member of the Science and Technology team at Ariadne Labs. The Senior Qualitative Specialist will be based in Boston and work to accelerate Ariadne Labs' work to improve healthcare outcomes using innovative effective solutions. The person hired into this position would report to the Director of Science and Technology and work closely with staff and faculty across the Lab.

Job-Specific Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Design qualitative solutions for small, innovative projects as well as for large-scale, mixed methods projects seeking to develop scalable solutions to complex health system problems.
  • Develop innovative, qualitative research approaches, activities and methodologies that will result in high quality, impactful study results - in collaboration with the Science and Technology team - and that will lead future direction of Ariadne Labs qualitative research.
  • Serve as the lead researcher, with content input from project teams, to drive the project through all stages from study design to analysis. Leading all aspects of qualitative research including study design and tool development including semi-structured interview and focus group guides and analytic plans.
  • Act as the lead moderator/interviewer in the gathering of insights through qualitative research methods, primarily through focus group moderation and/or in-depth interviews.
  • Analyze research findings and interpreting the results to create insightful reports and presentations, and to make recommendations on future direction of research.
  • Lead the writing of methods and results sections for manuscripts, abstracts, program reports, and new grant proposals.
  • Manage at least two qualitative specialists.
  • Liaise with project teams to determine appropriate staffing resources for qualitative studies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term appointment of 1 year from date of hire with the possibility of extension.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a part-time, exempt, and benefits eligible position with a 70% schedule (which is a standard ~24.5 hour work week).

PLEASE NOTE: The primary work location for this position is Boston, Massachusetts. Until our return to campus, which is still to-be-determined, this interview process and position will be conducted virtually - including virtual interviews, remote onboarding, and remote work. The remote nature of this position is only temporary. Local, on-campus work will be required as a condition of continued employment once the School and this role return to an operational status that supports it.

Basic Qualifications
  • Master's Degree Required
  • 7+ years of related experience required
  • Experience withqualitative software packages required
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • DrPH or PhD in relevant field is a plus
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in leading qualitative methods including study design, implementation, analysis, and manuscript development strongly preferred
  • Experience and interest in mentoring junior team members preferred
  • Experience working in a multi-functional, matrixed environment preferred
  • Experience in guiding the development of conceptual frameworks for new projects preferred
  • Experience in implementation science and/or monitoring and evaluation preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of qualitative software packages, such as NVivo, Dedoose, Atlas.ti, strongly preferred
  • Experience developing interview guides and structured surveys strongly preferred
  • Experience conducting semi-structured interviews and focus groups strongly preferred
  • An understanding of mixed-methods approaches, specifically in public health preferred
  • Excellent collaboration skills and experience working with multidisciplinary teams preferred
