Department Summary

This position is responsible for conducting and assisting with research studies in the Auditory Neurophysiology Laboratory within the Department of Biological Sciences. Research in the lab involves measuring both neural responses to sound stimuli and behavioral responses related to perception of sound.

The main duties of this position will be: training and testing rabbits on a sound perception task; collecting neural data from rabbits during daily experiments; pre-processing data using scientific software; assisting with surgical procedures on rabbits and giving them post-procedural care; and assisting undergraduate researchers with research.

Position Profile

Conducts or assists with life sciences lab work and research.

Performs professional-level work that involves basic, operational problem-solving. Independently resolves day-to-day issues and executes clearly defined tasks. Provides data analysis and informational insights to support decision-making.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None; may assist with training student employees.

Fiscal Responsibilities

No budgetary responsibility. May be responsible for validating transactions.

Solves routine problems with defined processes and guidance.

Independence of Action

Works under close supervision.

Communication and Collaboration

Collaborates with peers and follows guidance from supervisor.

Physical Requirements

Provides animal care (rabbits) and assistance with animal surgeries.

Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching and lifting.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and less than 3 years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering

Basic understanding of fundamental concepts, practice and procedures and the ability to apply in varied situations.

Work Schedule

This position requires a consistent on-campus presence on the Athens campus to effectively support research. The incumbent is expected to maintain a regular work schedule Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Due to the nature of the work, occasional evening and weekend hours may be required to support critical research.
