Job Summary:
The Fitness & Recreation Manager at Arapahoe Community College plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, engaging environment that supports student well-being and fosters a strong sense of community. This position leads the development and delivery of inclusive wellness, fitness, and recreation programs, while overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Fitness Center. Responsibilities include managing memberships, ensuring safe and effective facility use, maintaining equipment and spaces, overseeing budgets and revenues, and promoting participation among students, employees, and the broader community-all with a focus on enhancing connection, health, and overall campus experience.
In this collaborative role, the manager also mentors and supervises professional and student staff, guiding hiring, training, and performance development. They design and implement a dynamic calendar of student events and co-curricular activities that encourage physical wellness, engagement, and belonging. Working closely with campus and community partners, the role supports physical education programming and ensures all initiatives are inclusive, outcomes-driven, and aligned with student development goals-helping every participant feel supported, valued, and inspired to engage.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, OR a combination of relevant education and experience. An equivalency will not count towards the experience requirement below.
- 3 years of full-time experience in recreational and fitness programming, including but not limited to: physical wellness activities, intramurals and club sports, community recreation, and fitness center management.
- Supervision or leadership experience.
- Experience with event planning and coordination, including budget management and promotions.
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience working in a community college setting.
- Experience supervising others in a professional setting.
- Knowledge of student development theory, techniques, and research associated with engaging diverse student populations.
