Mental Health Therapist
The University Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing comprehensive mental health support for students at the University of the Ozarks. Specifically, this role will serve as the primary university point of contact regarding student mental health support. The Therapist will facilitate short-term individual and group counseling sessions, crisis intervention, mental health education and awareness education for University students and faculty/staff, and referral to community-based counseling services. In addition, the Therapist will support University student success initiatives as requested.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide short term individual counseling to the university student population
- Facilitate short term student group counseling sessions in response to an identified campus need
- Serve as the primary university resource for mental health crisis intervention
- Serve as a campus resource and provide student mental health support in instances of a university community crisis
- Provide regular mental health education and response training for professional and paraprofessional staff members.
- Coordinate student referrals to off campus mental health care providers for long term care
- Consult with the appropriate University staff regarding mental health after-hours and weekend emergency response
- Support student success and retention initiatives including First Year Experience, new student orientation, early intervention teams, and other retention efforts as requested by supervisor
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of current developments/trends, as well as best practices, in student counseling and mental health support
- High level of comfort with frequent student contact
- Demonstrated ability to successfully balance, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in an active, fast-paced environment, while providing superior constituent service
- Excellent oral, written, computer, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field
- Fully licensed LPC, LAC, LMFT, or LCSW preferred. Also open to provisionally licensed or early licensed professionals under supervision
- A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible, full-time professional experience, in counseling in a higher education setting
