Summary of Position

The Facilities Department at RRCC is seeking a Custodian to clean, sanitize, and maintain campus facilities including classrooms, restrooms, offices, and public areas, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include deep cleaning tasks such as upholstery care, inside window washing, wiping down classroom tables, counters, and desks, and cleaning whiteboards. Regular duties include disinfecting restroom floors, sinks, mirrors, counters, walls, partitions, toilets, and urinals; removing trash and recyclables; polishing stainless steel fixtures such as drinking fountains; and replenishing paper towels, toilet paper, and soap dispensers. Additional tasks involve washing windows, shampooing carpets, and buffing tile floors using scrubbers and polishers, as well as applying appropriate cleaning chemicals for various surfaces and spills. Operate custodial equipment including carpet extractors, steamers, and floor buffers; determine and maintain proper supply levels; and report maintenance issues promptly. Maintain building security in assigned areas, assist with snow removal as needed, and provide excellent customer service while collaborating effectively with co-workers. This position requires strong organizational, communication, and time management skills, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

This position reports to the Custodial lll supervisor. The work schedule for this position is Monday to Friday 2:00PM to 10:30 PM, and as needed, at the Lakewood location. May require hours outside of normal work schedule.
This position may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Six months of custodial experience as the primary function of the job. Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge/experience in proper methods to strip and re-wax hard surface flooring; proper methods of handling waste and an understanding of environmental issues when using and handling cleaning products; proper sanitation procedures for restrooms; minimum 6 months prior experience in hard floor and carpet maintenance, operating floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, and floor buffers; at least one year prior experience working as a Custodian.
Physical & Cognitive Demands

The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Advertised Hourly Pay

The hourly pay for this position is $18.81, commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA exempt position and may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need.
