Position Highlights

The Full Professor in Environmental Health Sciences will provide strategic leadership in advancing One Health research at the intersection of environmental toxicology, comparative physiology, and climate-related health impacts. This position is designed to strengthen the University of Arizona's capacity in understanding how environmental stressors influence organismal and population-level health across wildlife and human systems. The successful candidate will lead interdisciplinary, externally funded research programs and foster collaborations across environmental biology, public health, and resilience-focused initiatives. This role will also contribute to graduate and undergraduate education, mentorship, and community-engaged research aligned with MEZCOPH's mission.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead an internationally recognized research program in environmental health and One Health sciences. Develop and sustain a vigorous, externally funded research program focused on environmental toxicology, comparative environmental physiology, and climate-related health impacts. Advance innovative approaches linking environmental exposures to biological responses across species, including sentinel species models and biomarker development.
  • Provide strategic leadership in interdisciplinary research initiatives and center-level activities. Lead and contribute to large, multi-investigator research initiatives aligned with university priorities in One Health, climate resilience, and environmental health. Foster collaborations across campus centers (e.g., ESRAC, SWEHSC, AIR) and with external partners, including federal agencies and international collaborators.
  • Teach and develop curriculum in environmental health and One Health. Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in environmental health sciences, One Health, and related areas. Contribute to curriculum development, including integration of climate-health and cross-species risk frameworks into training programs.
  • Mentor students, postdoctoral scholars, and junior faculty. Provide mentorship to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career faculty. Support development of interdisciplinary research skills, grant writing, and career advancement, with emphasis on inclusive excellence.
  • Service and community engagement. Participate in departmental, college, and university service. Engage with community, governmental, and global partners to translate research into practice, particularly in climate-sensitive and vulnerable populations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Environmental toxicology, endocrine disruption, and contaminant dynamics in biological systems.
  • Comparative and integrative physiology under environmental stress.
  • One Health frameworks linking wildlife, environmental, and human health.
  • Climate change impacts on biological systems, including disease ecology and physiological adaptation.
  • Biomonitoring approaches, including non-invasive and hormone-based methods.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, MD, or equivalent) in environmental health sciences, physiology, toxicology, ecology, or a closely related field.
  • Academic credentials consistent with appointment at the rank of Full Professor with tenure.
  • Demonstrated record of sustained, extramurally funded research at the national or international level.
  • Evidence of scholarly contributions in environmental health, One Health, or related interdisciplinary fields.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and/or junior faculty.
  • Experience leading or contributing to interdisciplinary research teams.
  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications and scientific leadership.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses. These reports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
