Job Description

The Department of Environmental and Plant Biology at Ohio University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Professor in Applied Plant Science for the 2026-2027 academic year. This is a teaching-focused, non-tenure-track position with a significant service component supporting applied, experiential learning. The Visiting Professor position is a full time, nine-month position for the academic year 2026-2027 (from August 16, 2026, to May 15, 2027). The appointment may be renewable depending on departmental needs and performance.

Position Description


This visiting faculty member will contribute substantially to undergraduate instruction in applied plant science and will play a central role in coordinating operations and student engagement at the OHIO Student Farm. The position is structured as a teaching-focus appointment with a workload emphasizing undergraduate instruction alongside applied service responsibilities consistent with departmental needs.

The successful candidate will teach lecture, laboratory, and field-based undergraduate courses in applied plant science. We seek candidates with strong practical expertise who can support skill-based instruction and workforce preparation across areas that could include plant production systems, plant propagation, plant health management, sustainable agriculture, and related applied fields.

A major component of this role will be oversight and coordination of the OHIO Student Farm. Responsibilities will include supporting instructional activities at the farm, supervising student workers and experiential learning opportunities, assisting with seasonal planning and operations, and contributing to outreach and engagement initiatives connected to applied plant science education.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in plant science, horticulture, agronomy, plant pathology, or a closely related field by the start date
  • Demonstrated experience teaching or training students in applied plant science or closely related areas
  • Strong working knowledge of plant production systems and hands-on experience with applied practices (e.g., propagation, crop management, pest and disease management, greenhouse or field operations)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in plant science or related discipline
  • Experience teaching laboratory or field-based undergraduate courses
  • Demonstrated experience managing or coordinating applied teaching facilities such as farms, greenhouses, or similar operations
  • Evidence of commitment to inclusive, student-centered teaching and experiential learning
