Qualifications:

Required:

  • Doctorate in Social Sciences or related field
  • Experience using a course learning management system (e.g., Canvas)
  • Experience in a position that required significant organization and communication

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in cultivating enriching discussions and spurring critical thinking among students
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in engaging first-year and transfer students acclimating to collegiate standards.
  • Documented effectiveness in teaching at the post-secondary level.

Description:

Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a renewable term, 9 month faculty member for the general education course "Gateway to the Social Sciences". This course is part of a suite of courses that meet the General Education Core V requirement: First Year Experience. A first-year experience course is required for all incoming first-year and transfer students at the University of Oklahoma.

Specifically, Gateway to the Social Sciences (CAS 1563) is focused on introducing how social science disciplines contribute to our understanding of the social world in which we live, as well providing foundational knowledge so that students are able to identify similarities and differences between various social science disciplines. The course will give students the opportunity to become versed in current issues studied from various social science perspectives, as well as become familiar with various methodological approaches used across the social science disciplines. Consequently, this course is approached from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Furthermore, this course provides students with opportunities to build critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as develop their ability to articulate their ideas verbally and in writing.

Successful candidates will have a commitment to excellence in teaching and successful engagement and support and/or teaching. Selected applicants will be appointed as renewable term faculty. The term of the initial appointment is five years, and faculty who meet the appropriate qualification requirements are eligible to be considered for renewal of their appointment. The regular teaching load is 4:4 or equivalent, currently assigned as a 5:3, with 80% teaching and 20% service. Expected start Fall 2026.
