Job Description

The Coordinator of Small Animal Surgery Laboratories will work closely with designated faculty, technicians, and students to facilitate the delivery of small animal surgical laboratories and clinical activities under the direction of the designated faculty. This technician will oversee coordination and assist in supervision of surgery labs; oversee maintenance and repair of surgical equipment, instruments, and anesthesia machines; and maintain a highly organized and functional operating space. Coordination of these laboratories might include organization of resources including animals, scheduling student care workers and student patient care shifts, student surgery groups, equipment, and consumables for laboratories. They will manage the ordering of medical supplies, medications, and consumables for the surgical facilities at the DVTC.

Required Qualifications

*A.S. or A.A.S. in Veterinary Medical Technology; *current Virginia license in the required discipline; *in good professional standing.

Preferred Qualifications

*Minimum of one-year clinical experience in various settings; *minimum of one year being an instructor in an associate degree level veterinary technology program or veterinary medical college

Job Duties
  • Promote the mission of Lincoln Memorial University to all faculty, staff, students, and to the community at large;
  • promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff and students;
  • participate on university committees;
  • demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in supporting and promoting success in the CVM;
  • assist the designated Faculty to provide clinical and lab experiences for students in an efficient, professional, and authoritative manner;
  • organize laboratories
  • generate surgery lab schedules
  • manage training elements to maintain a functional operating spaces;
  • manage supply requests for the surgical facilities at the DVTC;
  • communicate with site coordinator for facility request;
  • communicate with the Director of Veterinary Technical Staff on human resource, animal, and operational concerns;
  • assist DVMs with clinical cases, isolation and hospitalized patients;
  • assist in the education of the student under the direction of designated faculty while the student learns the veterinary medical clinical and surgical skills process as he/she acquires the knowledge, understanding, and the entry-level skills required of veterinarians;
  • give feedback ( via rubrics), and instruction to the student for the activities during the surgical and anesthesia experience;
  • maintain DEA drug inventory and controlled drug logs;
  • ensure that all OSHA and USDA guidelines are implemented in student clinical student activities;
  • maintain medical records of animals that are used in the spay/neuter program, and comply with all IACUC guidelines,
  • completion of required institutional and program accreditation reports and other reports necessary for the operation and advancement of the University; and
  • other duties as assigned.
